Recipes for a raw cat food diet?
My cats have been getting sick on even the most expensive brands of commercial cat food, like Wellness & Natural Balance. Many people & a few vets told me that veggies & grains are very bad for kitties over time (cancer, digestive problems, obesity, dandruff, diarrhea, coughing, etc.) & that vets will still sell the stuff because they are funded by pet food companies.
So I was suggested to make my own cat food if I cannot find a commercially sold veggie/fruit/grain/lactose-free raw diet. They also really pushed the raw part & said to stop leaving out a bowl dry food. The price of meat has reportedly gone up 300% where I live (not sure I believe that), but I'm tired of my cats dying for heath reasons before they even reach 10. I've already lost 4, though one was snatched up by a roosting hawk that had been taking neighbors small dogs.

The others posted my favorite website. You can buy prepared raw diets in the states, you may check if you have anything like that available. Some are frozen, some freeze dried. To prepare your own you'll either need a meat grinder to grind bones or you will need to use a calcium supplement if she has no teeth and you prepare the food yourself. Poor girl, sounds like she is lucky to have found you. Also while you investigate the raw diet, I would consider adding a probiotic/digestive enzyme type supplement to kitty's diet. Sometimes the natural bacteria in their gut get to be out of whack and this can help them feel better/produce healthier stool. Also you can try adding fiber to her diet, something like canned pumpkin or oatmeal in her canned food may help while you gather the supplies you need to make her a nutritious raw diet. The suggestion about avoiding unnaturals in her diet is a good one. If she has any food intolerance going on, it is more likely to be the things like fish, corn, and wheat that are common in pet foods but cats wouldn't eat if they were catching their own food. Good luck! Hope you find something that works for her.

Grains, particularly corn, are not good for your cat. The article mentioned by the first poster gives a very detailed explanation of how to make raw food for your cat. It also provides interesting information on why dry food is particularly bad for cats.

raw meat...preferably of a farm as fresh as possible with no additives, preservatives and hormones.
Its all our cats get, theyve never had shots or any thing except for being wormed and theyre the healthiest looking cats ive ever seen. They arent fat either like most cats fed on commercial food. Also try supplementing them with minerals.

i've read both on here and on websites that raw fish, chicken, and beef is the best thing for both dogs and cats. i've also read that they don't need any grains or veggies.
