How long does it take for my cat to stop peeing blood?
Monday my kitten(nine months) was outside and was in an accident. I think he was hit by a car. When I found him outside he was hiding behind a gate and had blood on him. I checked him out and all I could find were broken nails. I cleaned off the blood but when he went to pee I saw blood in the litter box. I took him to the vet and he got two shots. The vet told me that there's something wrong with his bladder and if it doesn't heal he can die. He gave me 20 tablets (antibiotics). Tuesday my kitten got his first two tablets, every day two tablets. It's Thursday now and he has had 6 tablets. I'm really worried now because he is still peeing blood. I think it's less blood than before but I'm not sure. He is still peeing a lot. If he stops peeing he could poison himself and die. So I make sure he gets plenty of water and I also give him cat milk. And add water to his food. I stopped giving him dry food and bought the canned cat food. I also clean out his litter box as often as I can. I know he shouldn't have been out, because he is still a baby, so I blame myself:(
I just want to know what are the chances that he will make it. And if he stops peeing blood does that mean his bladder is ok? And how long will it take for him to stop peeing blood, days? weeks? months? My vet doesn't really speak much and didn't tell me anything. I thought my kitten would make it and I didn't really know what to ask when I was there. Now I am very worried, because my kitten is gotten thinner and still peeing blood.
He ran outside and I couldn't catch him. The vet didn't do any examination other than press against his belly/bladder to see if it hurts.
My friend once told me that the vet told him he had a female kitten after he has examined the cat. But my friend later found out it was a male cat. So I don't know how 'professional' he really is. The clinic is only open 30 minutes from Monday to Friday.
My kitten is really scared easily and I don't want to give him anymore stress by letting him out of the house too often. I am planning on taking him back to the vet to do a check-up. All I want to know is how long did it take for someone's cat to stop peeing blood. The vet told me to give him all the tablets and then come back but I don't know if my kitten will make it till then.
Thank you for all your answers. I will call a different vet/clinic. You know I actually asked my vet if I should change his food, and he said no. So I'm really glad I looked online and read the advice of people online. That's why I switched to wet food. So I think asking people online questions can be very helpful, I don't believe everything someone tells me. And the vet isn't really that good of a vet, but he isn't far from where I live. And I always hold my cats in my arms and walk to the vet with them (fifteen minutes) or if they aren't sick they walk with me with a leash, because I don't have a car. They are good cats. And I hope the youngest one will make it.

You should call your vet with questions. Or if you don't feel confident in that vet, consider getting a second opinion, if possible from a vet that specializes in cats, or even from a specialist at an emergency / specialty vet hospital. (like a veterinary internal medicine specialist -
I think it sounds like you are definitely doing the right things to keep his bladder flushed out and healthier & prevent a blockage. It is good if he is peeing normal amounts. If he is peeing small amounts frequently that's not great. But if he does indeed have an infection then it can take several days for the antibiotics to work.
Plus it may just take a while for the poor little guy to heal from the injury.
Canned food not only is good because they need the moisture, it also usually has less grains, more meat which is also good. Try to make sure you are getting grain free food or very little amount of grains like corn, wheat, maize etc.. Higher carbs make the urine more alkaline and more likely to form struvite crystals which could lead to a blockage, but could also just irritate the urinary tract and contribute to inflammation & the blood in the urine..
Re him looking thinner, try feeding him a little more of the canned food. It may be it has fewer calories than the dry food he was eating. The carbs in the dry food are not nutritious for a cat but they can make them put on weight. You might try feeding him more meals a day.
In general, I think it sounds like he has a very good chance since he's made it this far since the accident. But you should write down your questions and call your vet. . Let them know he's still peeing blood, and also how often / how much he is peeing. If you use clumping litter it's easy to tell.
You might just ask about pain meds too. Here is an article from a vet about urinary tract health that mentions how pain & cystitis (bladder inflammation) can be a vicious circle www.catinfo.org/?link=urinarytracthealth
And as I said, if you think that vet might not be the most knowledgeable or careful, try looking for another. Ask other friends who have cats. or look for reviews online on Yelp etc. Or search for a feline vet on the AAFP site or a specialist on the ACVIM site.
I think my vet would have suggested an ultrasound to have a look at his internal organs.
And for the future maybe you can build some kind of outdoor cat enclosure so he can enjoy the outside but stay safe? Or teach him to walk with a harness and leash!

Last year my beautiful Manx cat Theodore went out for the evening and never came back. I love cats and the house didn't feel the same without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. She was very frightened and would pee all over the house. I found Cat Spraying No More on the internet and the techniques worked almost immediately. I haven't had a problem with Lola since. Amazing!
Can't stop your cat peeing in the house? Then worry no more...

Was there a need for such a rude answer Café Mocha Valencia? Kitten maybe got away and even if he didn't its done now. Do you feel good about yourself now?
I am really sorry about your kitten Violeta but despite being rude she/he has a point, nobody can really answer that apart from vet. Take the kitten to a different vet who will do x ray and explain you the situation a bit more before it is to late for the kitten.
Good luck , i really hope your kitten will survive.

It seems like the vet is trying to help your cat, but you really need to call your vet and describe the current situation, and ask lots of questions. Some may not be able to easily be answered, but it is better that a professional (vet) that has actually seen your kitten be asked those, rather then strangers on the internet.

So you think strangers on the internet can give you a better answer than the vet that examined him??? We CAN'T. Did the vet do an xray or ultrasound to see if there's internal damage?
This cat very well could die. Such is the danger of allowing a cat to roam loose like a wild animal. Why did you?
