Have you hear of other cats using the exercise wheel becides the Bengal cats?

We have a very active russian blue type kitty about 6 months old who runs all over the place all the time. She currently takes pleasure in doing naughty things so we will chase her to stop them. We have to play with her vigorously for an hour to get her to sleep at night.

We feed her Friskies dry cat food and once in a while a very little table scrap. We hold off on the catnip because it really excites her even more! She is not fixed and at the moment is the most affectionate when she is in heat. She actually slows down to get scratched.

Do you have any ideas? And if you have a cat other than a Bengal how did you train it to use the wheel and where did you get it?

Thanks..

Update:

I grew up with a lot of cats and this cat seems to be hyperactive more than the others. She runs high speed a lot around the house. We play with her a lot and love it. It can be exausting at times because she doesn't nap like the rest and must climb and bat things around.

There are three of us who play with the cat.

Update 2:

We have to keep her in the house. We live near a very busy street. She was a tiny stray and we took her in. We can't let her out because the other strays are dirty and grown.

Hence, my question about the wheel! Please if you have any ideas to get the cat on a wheel if you did it before with a cat besides a Bengal I would love to hear from you!

ps This cat is NOT neglected in any way from playing.

First off, get her spayed - why haven't you? She's having to endure painful heats and runs the risk of running outdoors and ending up pregnancy. Not only would that add yet more kittens to the pet overpopulation problem but a pregnancy when she's still a kitten herself COULD KILL HER.

Secondly, she isn't a "Russian Blue type kitty" she's a Blue Domestic Shorthair - a cat of no particular breed just like over 97% of the cats on this entire planet.

Thirdly - "We have to play with her vigorously for an hour to get her to sleep at night" How is this so horrible? She's a KITTEN! Kittens are full of energy and SHOULD be played with at LEAST a few times each day. If you wanted a more laidback pet you should have adopted an ADULT cat. But even they should get playtime.

To answer your question, I've seen those wheels at cat shows and the only breed I've seen that actually wants to run on them is the breed they were made for - the Bengal - since they're a hybrid of wild cat and VERY hyperactive. Those wheels also START at around $500. You want to spend that kind of money??? People train their cats to use them with either a lure toy or a laser pointer.

And if you CAN afford one of those wheels - why are you feeding your kitten such a cheap, crappy cat food? Friskies is about as low quality as you can get. It has NO real meat in it and is made mostly. Your kitten's a carnivore not a vegan!

    You should get her fixed.

I have a feeling that you a mix with the way you worded it so there is no reason to not have her fixed.

Second of all you should not feed cats human food and Friskies is bad brand of cat food but I'm not about that into that.

Second of, you don't NEED a wheel, I mean no offense but you make it sound like a chore to play with your cat.

i've heard of Savannahs, Siamese and Orientals using them but I haven't tried getting one so I'm afraid I don't have any tips. Generally from what i have heard people did not have much trouble getting very active cats to use it. I think they have a toy attached in it so they are sort of chasing the toy?
