Why do christians think atheists can't be moral?
I am an atheist. I choose right and wrong based on a "treat people the way you want to be treated" type philosophy...i choose not to to hurtful things to people because i dislike upsetting other people. I give strangers in need money because i would like it if someone did that for me in a similar situation...in conclusion...i think empathy would be a better substitute for morality then god.
i feel when doing good just because you have to, it becomes a selfish act, a way into heaven...i know some christians have to have empathy...so why is this not good enough without god?

Because of the immorality of the christians!
Research shows that the reason humans struggle with emotion to find equitable solutions is pinpointed the region of the brain called the insular cortex, or insula, which is also the seat of emotional reactions.
The fact that the brain has such a robust response to unfairness shows that sensing unfairness is a basic evolved capacity.
The emotional response to unfairness pushes people from extreme inequity and drives them to be fair. This observation shows our basic impulse to be fair isn't a complicated thing that we learn.
It therefore fully illustrates that all humans have morals controlled by the brain and that Christians are entirely wrong to try and claim morals as their own!!!!
But Christians found a way round it!
Government statistics show that christians are vastly over represented in prisons for sexual, violent and fraudulent crime!
The Catholic church is paying millions in compensation for the sex/pedophile crimes of their priests alone!
Christians are vastly over represented in the divorce courts!
Christians invented the concept of sin and then the idea that you could sin, ask forgiveness, get pardoned and start with a clean sheet!
So no surprise that they are so expert at it is it?!

That question has a huge assumption to it. I know that many of my atheist friends act very morally. To do good deeds alone is a great thing, but Christians believe that none of that will ever get us into Heaven. We believe that ONLY through Jesus Christ can you enter Heaven. Atheists can certainly act morally, but to say Christians act morally because "we have to" is incorrect as well. A Christian's morality is requested in the Bible (as evidenced by the 10 commandments). But it is done so to give ourselves a guideline. To say that our acts of goodness become selfish as a way into Heaven is wrong because that is not what we Christians are being judged on by God. Our morality is our own even if it is requested by God.
Hope this helps.

I think there are a lot fake Christians, the fact is that most people I know are born into a religion and have never considered questioning it. A true believer finds a religion on his own, whether it be Buddhism, Christianity, Muslim, Atheist etc. Fake believers are those that are taken in from fear they're the ones that are pressured into joining. I'll never understand why anyone would go out onto a street to try to preach to pedestrians.
As for anyone believing that Morality is religion based is wrong. Morals are based on society, its laws and sanctions.
Clair is a FAKE Christian.

Doing good isn't a ticket heaven.
Let’s say you believe it’s OK to “steal under certain circumstances” (like starvation);
Where do you live? I’m starving right now; I’ll be right over and I won’t settle for your token charity; I want your stuff, according to your situational rules …
What’s wrong? Without absolute standards for morality, now you don’t want to play anymore?
Without an absolute standard for morality, you have chaos.
Confess your sins to God and ask His forgiveness; turn from them proving your repentance is real, then trust Jesus took the punishment your sins deserved on His cross so you can have abundant life now and eternal life to come! You were created in love to respond to the Father's love for you!

Christians are taught that moral laws come from God. Therefore, if you don't believe in God, you do not have any morals. They cannot afford to believe we are good people, lest they tacitly acknowledge that they don't need their religion to be moral.
Morality is doing what is right, no matter what you are told.
Religion is doing what you are told, no matter what is right.

It is better to really believe in treating people the way you wanted to be treated that doing it because you´re afraid to be punished if you didn´t do so, or waiting for the prize, the salvation. Having these reasons to be decent persons is only hypocrisy.

Not all Christians think such a thing, but those who do, frankly, scare me.
They kind of imply with it that they'd have no qualms going around raping and pillaging, and that it's only the big magic surveillance cam in the sky that keeps them in check.

Because they can't imagine being moral without the carrot-and-stick approach?
Many Christians don't think that way, by the way.

Because atheist do not have a MOSES to command A Joshua to kill all the children -Men - and women in Jericho---Well Jesus abolished the law --The new law is worship Jesus or burn in hell --Thanks SON OF A GOD--Atheist should make up a god to command a MOSES--Or a SON OF A MOSES

I don't believe that at all.
There's a huge difference between being moral and being sanctified.
