why do people hate on raven .25's?

i have seen countless forums and yahoo answers questions and youtube videos of people just bashing these little pistols. well i recently saw one at my local gunshop for $95 brand new in the box, i know they havent been made for years but it had never been fired. i took it to the range today with 100 rounds of WWB .25auto and it ran GREAT. it didnt jam or misfeed one time and was quite accurate up to 20 feet. all ive heard is that they are jam-o-matic, throw away guns. i just want to share my experience with the little raven and see what others thought about this underrated pistol

Update:

i know 100 rounds isnt alot but come on. everyone says that you cant even make it through a mag without a misfeed. its just outright lies. stop being a gun snob plain and simple.

Dude, have fun with your new pistol and don't listen to the machismo coming from a lot of these guys. The .25 acp is a good round and has been around a long time, and will be around forever - it's not obsolete like this know-it-all said.

You'll have a lot of fun with this piece at the range and you can't beat the price. If it breaks down over time, at least it didn't hurt your wallet.

As far as self defense, this has been a brutal topic for decades. People think that good self defense means owning a pistol that can shoot through an engine block, through a tree, and through a brick wall! Not the case - they've been watching too many Dirty Harry movies. Accuracy is key in shooting, and higher calibers mean higher recoil which usually means less accuracy.

Well it all depends on what you use it for. Most people think that all pistols are for CCW. When I bought my High Point c9, the FFL dealer said "I hope you don't plan on carrying this, you might as well throw it an the badguy". If you just wanna have some little for fun then I don't see a problem with it. I plan on getting on of those NAA .22 mini revolvers. It's a single action, five shot gun. Very tiny. And of coarse it wouldn't be used for ccw but it would be a nice little something to have. You will hear people say that you can get a Ruger LCP instead and all this other crap. Anyway be safe and enjoy your new pistol.

Raven/Bryco/Davis/Jennings/Jimenez/Whatevertheywillbecallednextmonth is a POS plain and simple

It has nothing to do with hate and everything to do with an honest assessment by people who actually know guns

Back when a Raven was all I could afford that is what I had and also claimed it was a good gun, but like you said 100 rounds is nothing especially when the standard is 500 before you trust a gun with your life.

The one time I did have to trust that gun it failed me after 100 flawless rounds at the range. If my friend had not been able to get to my Taurus .357(gun snob huh?) I would probably be dead

They are substandard pieces of **** that will not stand up to even the most mundane minimal task for very long

Get the best you can afford, if that is a Raven then that's what you have. Don't try to blow smoke and claim that it is anything other than what it is

I bought mine new for $29.95 from a gun shop

Look dude, just because you fired 100 rounds through you Raven, doesn't mean that it's a good gun. It's a cheaply made gun for people who can't or won't buy something that is better built and consequently more expensive.

Though I see a place in the world for cheap guns, that doesn't change the facts. A Raven is a junker.

My friend has a raven .25 and well.....the best way to put is that i would say its a novelty. I'm not going to rip on it, yeah it's a cheap gun and you get what you pay for with it. It jammed every once and while when we would take it out, but we don't use it that much. It's that one gun that we keep one box of ammo handy and it ends sitting in the corner of the safe forever. It's mainly because, although the round is still around everywhere, it's really expensive for it's size, and its no bigger than a .22 round. I would take a .22 any day over it. Sorry if this sounded similar to what everyone else said.

There have been some companies, such as Beretta, who have made high-quality semiauotmatic pistols in such calibers as the .25 ACP. But here's the scoop---Raven, Hi-Point, and a few other companies manufacture and sell budget guns that are the sort of stuff you find in pawn shops, flea markets (where the sale of guns in mostly done illegally), and other such markets.

The other reason is not so much Raven aRms, per se, but the .25 ACP itself. It's basically a compact defense gun meant to be carried in a woman's pocketbook, to be used a threat or last resort, than a serious self-defense weapon. The .22 LR is actually more powerful.

    Because they are junk

Because a gun needs to be able to fire 200 rounds without a single hiccup before it is deemed reliable

Because a gun should be able to fire 10,000 rounds before wearing out.

While the 'one jam per magazine' may not be exact, it is true in spirit.

The raven 25 will NOT last 10,000 rounds. It won't last 1000 rounds.

I REALLY DON'T KNOW. CUZ THE 1 I OWN IS OLD AND IT WORKS JUST FINE. JAMS? WELL OK I HAVE SEEN IT JAM, BUT I WENT TO MY LOCAL GUN STORE AND HE HANDED ME A BOX OF BULLETS. PROBLEM SOLVED. AS WITH ALL GUNS, THEY ALL HAVE A DIFFERENT APPETITE !! THAT'S MY 2 CENTS ANYWAY. BE SAFE!!

Wow, so in your vast 100 rounds of experience, you suddenly know better than countless hundreds of people who have already found out what you eventually will, that your Raven is a Piece Of Crap destined for failure. You got 100 shots through it, yay for you, that's great. Come see us when you've got 1000 through it. You'll be singing a different song.

But hey, if you're happy with a sub quality pot metal throw away gun, more power to you. Personally, i don't buy or shoot crap I can't trust. If you want to risk losing a finger or two in a pot metal piece of crap, go for it. I kinda like all 10 of my fingers attached to my hand.

    Count yourself incredibly lucky.

I was unfortunate enough to buy one of these things brand new. I never had a bigger POS. I don't think I ever managed to shoot more than 2 or 3 rounds before jamming it. I happily traded it away at one of those idiotic gun buyback programs for two concert tickets.
