How likely is it that my cat ate her 6, 1-week old kittens?
They just simply disappeared, mama cat's first litter, she appears to be looking for them. I followed her around for most of yesterday and as far as I can tell the kittens may have been abducted by aliens. They are simply GONE!

If she's looking for them, its highly unlikely she ate them. While cats might eat their young, its not a frequent thing. This comes from starvation, when the kittens are the last thing the mother has she can draw nutrients from. I'm assuming you feed your cat, so she wouldn't resort to that. Not to mention she would remember eating them and wouldn't commence looking for them.
If you followed her around, this might be why you weren't able to follow her to them. Mother cats are protective of their young, in some cases even from their owners, and with you following her, she may have avoided going to them as to not lead what she anticipated as harm to them.
If she had kittens outside, numerous different animals could've taken them as prey, ranging from hawks and owls, to snakes, to even weasels. If she gave birth inside, and you kept them inside, more than likely she found somewhere in the walls she could slip into, an old box you don't use, or somewhere else secretive to hide them that we, as people, wouldn't even think of.
Hope they're all all right!

haha omg I had this EXACT same question about three weeks ago, except mine only has 3 kittens and they were all about a week old.
Anyways, there wouldnt be a reason for to eat them unless she hasnt been feed for a few days, or she though they were rats/mouses, but thats very unlikely because its HER kittens and they carry a certain scent.
Well, when I couldnt mine I could have sworn she ate them, couldnt hear them meow, no sign that they were still even in the house
until my mom spotted that she was going behind the computed desk into a little slot in the back that led to the jore, and when we opened it up, we saw 3 baby kittens perfectly fine! but it goes to show how tricky momma cats can be with hiding their babies, and when you find them, dont try to move them! shell just bring them straight back lol
good luck on finding the kittens :)

It is true that some cats eat their young. Though this is only a last resort for the mother. She usually only decides to do this if the kittens seem weak and she thinks they wont make it. On the other hand if someone did steal your cats they are highly uneducated. Uneducated enough not to know that a kitten can not live away from it's mother until its 8th week of life.
HOPE THAT HELPED!!!!! :D

No - not at a week old. If this cat is outside, then any wild animal could have found and killed the kittens. The important thing is to take mom cat in now and spay her before she ends up pregnant.

The mom cats can hide them VERY well, its usually in a small dark place that you wouldn't even think of. But keep all options in mind: do you have any predators where you live? (This is if she's an outdoor cat). Raccoons, possums, other cats, dogs, foxes, coyotes, etc. will all kill baby kittens.

I doubt she ate them... She probably moved them into a new location. Find the kittens and make sure the momma is still looking after them and that they're not stuck somewhere.

Haha I've heard that cats sometimes eat their kittens, but I don't think it's true, do you know anyone who might of wanted kittens? They could of stole them o.o just a thought

It's possible that she ate them, but more likely she found a neat hiding place to stash them. Keep an eye on her, as she'll go back to them frequently to nurse.
