Can you name three common sounds used repeatedly in horror films to build tension?

One example would be a whistling tea kettle.

You mean besides the background music?

Dead silence is the absence of sound, but that's used often. A person gasping for air while trying not to make noise, like after have run and is now hiding. A creaking sound in the house. The tapping of a branch against a window. A dog barking. A scratching noise. The tinkling of wind chimes. Someone making shushing sounds.

Tapping or knocking noises always provide the most fun tensions in films also they like to use stingers like in the film Halloween when the Myers pops up.

    Cheers.

The snicker snack of a knife blade, even when it isn't touching anything. Stringed instruments, screaming.

  • Footsteps, heartbeats, creaking doors.
