How do I get pine sap out of my cat's fur?
I'm not sure how she got into it, but it feels sticky and hard, and is clumping her fur. I've tried everything, even water, which she hates.

- 10 years agoCall a vet and ask before anything. There are some strong cleaners out there that really work for pine sap. Otherwise just cut off the hair that is clumping. It'll grow back.
- OcimomLv 710 years agoSap is hard to get off of car windows, clothes and your hands! I would put some cornstarch powder on her coat first to identify where the sap is and then have someone hold the cat and use a small pair of scissors to cut it off the coat. There really is no good shampoo to get sap off the fur. I also would be keeping the cat inside or supervised outside so it doesn't happen again.
- 5 years agoThe best thing to use is mineral or olive oil, with olive oil being the best. You must realize that a cat is going to lick the area and you don t want your cat to ingest anything toxic, which will add to your problems. My cat won t sit still for any length of time (even with help) so it won t hurt to let it soak in and get a steal/ coarse tooth comb and work it through to get the sap out. Skin s going to be sensitive so I used an oatmeal soap. More than one shampoo will be needed to get the sap & oil out.

- Anonymous10 years agoDawn dish soap can be used. You can also try olive oil or peanut butter. Those usually work because of the high level of oil in it (the olive oil obviously). If it gets softened enough you can use a flea comb if you have one and try combing the sap out. If you are not able to get it out you may have to take your kitty to the vet or groomer and have it shaved out. Source(s): vet tech 10+ years
- Anonymous10 years agoIf you're able to, try cutting out the clump. Otherwise, I'd take her to the vet and ask them.
