I have plugged a male to male USB lead from laptop to TV, I duplicate the screen, but doesn't effect the TV?

I have a male to male USB lead going from the USB port in my laptop to the USB port in my TV, I pressed a button to duplicate the screen so it appears on both screens but it doesn't seem to effect my TV at all? What do I do?

Update:

If USB lead doesn't work that way, what is a male to male USB lead for out of curiosity? Also, could Iconnect an external hard drive to the TV with a USB lead?

USB doesn't work that way. You need an HDMI or VGA cable from the laptop to the TV.

There's is no way you can use a USB cable to view your computer on your TV. If your laptop has an S-Video, VGA, DVI or HDMI output, i'd use one of those. But make sure your TV has the same thing. It's possible to get an S-Video to Composite or Component also HMDI to DVI and visa versa.

As others have said, USB doesn't carry a video signal
