Worried about Medicare? Consider this.?

A commercial is airing on ION television for PosTVac, which is a medication used for sexual enhancement. The ad clearly says that your MEDICARE will cover this medication.

No wonder everyone is worried that Medicare will run out.

What are we spending our TAXES on!!!

Sorry, but the ad is wrong and/or misleading.

In the first place, medicare no longer covers prescription medications. When you are on Medicare you must get a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, either as a stand alone or within a Medicare Advantage plan. These plans, however, do have a formulary, or a list of covered medications. None of the plans in my state cover any sexual enhancement drugs, although you can usually get a company to make an exception and cover those drugs IF they are prescribed by a doctor for a completely different purpose (which does happen).

They probably leave out the part where you would need a prescription, or they leave out the part that Medicare covers only up to 80% of the cost and you would need your Medigap policy to pay the rest .

You dont have to enroll in Part D at all. You can get all prescriptions filled at Walmart or Walgreen for a few dollars.

Since most Medicare beneficiaries are over 65, I doubt many of them would get a prescription for this stuff, and Medicare covers only prescribed medications.

I think there are a lot more wasteful things than erectile dysfunction that government spends money on like "the bridge to nowhere" or $1 million for a college in Afghanistan and Congressional members perks and partying. All they do in Washington is party every night. They dont resolve problems. They make deals.

This ad is either misleading or outright lying, and if you look closely, you'll probably see some fine print. In the first place, Medicare does not cover any medications at all. You have to purchase your own drug prescription coverage, called Medicare Part D, and I seriously doubt many of them cover any sort of thing. My husband's Medicare Part D does not cover Levitra, e.g. Ads like this make me want to puke all over my television.

Another point I might make is I've seen that commercial, and it doesn't look like medication, but equipment. I don't know if Medicare covers that particular equipment, and if it does, it would be under Medicare Part B, which you have to pay premiums for.

This is apparently where I part with most of you. Erectile dysfunction is a legitimate medical condition and as such should be treated. I get Levitra from the VA, but only four. I guess the VA thinks we should only make love four times a month. If we want more than that we have to get a prescription for a civilian pharmacy and pay the full retail amount. It wouldn't surprise me if Medicare Part D didn't have some similar provisions. I think that is being prejudiced against old people and violating our constitutional rights to life, liberty and the happiness of pursuit.

Ads will make a claim that are mostly untrue. As far as Medicare is concern, there are always a lot of scrupulous people who steals millions and millions of dollars from Medicare using fraudulent claims and stolen social security numbers.

It is also being used for many things like illegals, and people who entered the country and worked for a year or as soon as they become citizens, and the government has been dipping into it for years.

Isn't it surprising that medicare will pay for sexual enhancement but not a hearing aid or glasses. I guess the government thinks sex is more important to the elderly than to see or hear.

And until yesterday, many women had to pay out of pocket for birth control since their plans did not cover it.

    Go figure.

Pathetic. Next Medicare will be paying for marijuana.

THANK YOU for pointing this out. We need to write to our legislators on this. How about the "blue pill" and the others like it.. I bet they are covered too. How do they get away with this when seniors or low income ppl often cannot afford life saving medicine?? Write, write and write some more. I intend to , thanks for reminding us.
