Well!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely AGREE...
Just calculate.....
I think it should be MORE STRINGENT!!!
Buy One Water Packet for ` 2/-.
Rice for ` 1/- per kg and make "porridge" (Use Sunlight for Cooking Ofcourse!!).
Pickles are available in various flavours... Just get one for ` 1/- (Max)
Thus, cost for a meal is just ` 4/-
And Live at the road side tent !!!
Dress.... O!!! Is not One Enough?
Lavatory: Govt lavatory available at free of Cost!!
Net Cost for a Day will be less than ` 20/-
Thus, Just ` 20/- is more than enough!!

The actual criteria should be that anyone who buys 32ml petrol is not poor.
The Planning Commission suggests that spending Rs 5.5 on cereals per day is good enough to keep people healthy. Similarly, a daily spend of Rs 1.02 on pulses, Rs 2.33 on milk and Rs 1.55 on edible oil should be enough to provide adequate nutrition and keep people above the poverty line without the need of subsidized rations from the government. It further suggests that just Rs 1.95 on vegetables a day would be adequate. A bit more, and one might end up outside the social security net.
People should be spending less than 44 paise on fruits, 70 paise on sugar, 78 paise on salt and spices and another Rs 1.51 on other foods per day to qualify for the BPL list and for subsidy under various government schemes. A person using more than Rs 3.75 per day on fuel to run the kitchen is doing well as per these figures. Forget about the fuel price hike and sky-rocketing rents, if anyone living in the city is spending over Rs 49.10 a month on rent and conveyance, he or she could miss out on the BPL tag.

For a single person to survive at Rs. 32 per day is impossible. But it may be possible for a family of 4 to somehow make two ends meet at Rs. 128 per day.
Wood and waste paper can be picked up from here and there for free for fire.
Atta for RS. 20 a kilo and dal at Rs. 15 per 250 gms, rice at Rs. 25 a kilo, milk at Rs. 15 per half litre, some vegetables at Rs. 20 per day and Rs 10 for sundries can make a per day meal for 4 possible.
In my household I survive with the same quantity almost. Of course I have a flat and capacity to give society charges separately.
Edit@Sudan:
The issue here is mere capability to survive. It is not about visiting cinema houses on week ends. Then you will also say about LTA etc. and bonus!! The discussion should be on real things and not on politics always.
And how come Sudanese have become interested in the Indian affairs.?

ha ha wen i first read this in papers i laughed out very loudly.
A single vada pav costs 10rs. So this means you can eat 3 vada pavs a day and not be poor, what about your education, home, clothing.
The govt is really letting down the country buy such assessments.

Your details are not applicable.
world bank standard is 1USD per day.
i have known poors ( urban even) as many of you wudn't have. Rs. 32/- is just make one enable to make the both end meet. live on footpath and wear rags from garbage heaps, and if catch an illness just perish that's what they mean.
But, these idiots are so negligent that they have to accept now there are 77% people below poverty line ( against their claim of 33%)....because that too is world bank estimate for India.
This country is so ill-fate striken that they have to choose btw idiot, robotic , crooked Harwardians and stupid, fanatic, ruthless saffroners.
And see their hero.....the man who preaches yoga to make 50 companies and another who makes gandhian dramas to bring new laws ( implementation of which causes deaths of activists)....they both are half-wits. both harwardians and saffroners know that and so one goes to receive them at aairport and another dances on MK gandhi's grave .
Sometimes I think sub-continent people are worse than africans because having done marvellous job of earning freedom by civilised means, they have turned barbarians in all spheres of life when opportunity was given by DESTINY for 60+ years.
Is god avenging for sins of 7000 years ?

Well, if Rs.32 is the value of 6 cups of tea, then they’d be wrong. No one can survive on 6 cups of tea per day.
