you could spray them with 'bitter apple', although im not so sure if that would be ok for the plants. really, the safest thing you can do is just get rid of any indoor plants that are bad for the cat and that he likes to eat. or just keep a single room blocked off from the cats reach, in which you keep all the plants, but you must not confine the cat to only a room or two.

First things first, ensure your houseplants are not poisonous to your cat. If they are, please get rid of them. Maybe somebody you know will enjoy one of them. Here is a list of toxic and non-toxic plants...

If you happen to have plants in your home that are not harmful to your cat, the odds are that you don’t want your cat to destroy them. Cats are very curious and will try getting into everything. It is also important to note that it is instinctive for cats to claw or dig as they do in the litter box. If you are not careful, they might do the same to your plants. To prevent the certain mess that will occur if they do dig, you need to go to a craft store and purchase a plastic needlepoint mesh. Cut it to fit the opening of the pot and apply it over the dirt. This will keep your cat from clawing at the dirt in your plant. Chewing on plants is another matter entirely. All you need to do is spray the leaves and coat them with a cayenne spray or a bitter apple spray that you can get at most pet shops. The bad taste will keep your cat from chewing further.
Source(s): We have a four month old kitten that jumps all over my mother-in-law's plants. He was kicking out the soil and breaking the foliage. We cut the destroyed plant down to soil level so it can regrow. We also placed a bunch of stones on top of the soil so our kitten couldn't kick out the soil. The stones worked like a charm. Now, it's just a matter of keeping him off the plants all together. - 10 years ago
Always best to not bother really having many around when you have cats! They can get real sick with some of the plants out there! Best to keep plants out of reach of them! Good luck!

Use a food grinder, blender or food processor to grind the cayenne pepper into a soft, fine powder.
Blend the powdered cayenne pepper with 1 cup water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle.
Spray the pepper spray on the leaves of the plant you want to protect. Spray some in the soil, too if your cat liked to dig in the dirt.

Put your plants on tall counters or near a tall window sill so your cat can't reach it! Make sure your cat is pooping and peeing normally though because it might be dangerous to them to eat house plants. Get it some cat nip instead.

this is beneficial to place some rocks on the soil to steer away from digging, and clutter container use. there is spray which you will get from the puppy keep that the cat can not stand the smell of. I had to spray this on my pots some cases. It worked like a appeal. They have not messed with the flora in some years. i've got sprayed that stuff around my motor vehicle until eventually now to maintain the cats putting prints on the paint.

I love cats. I love houseplants. What to do, what to do? I tried everything -- finally found the answer. The plants live in the bedroom, which has two nice windows for them; and I keep the door closed -- no kitties allowed in.
