Need advice about what kind of gun to get?

I plan on getting a gun here pretty soon. I'm a right handed female, I'd prefer a gun that's good in close quarters (I have a apartment that has narrow doorways and a sort narrow hall) defense gun that cost at max $450 new or used. Also something with long hand grip would be nice, that way I can grip it with two hands instead of just one without hurting my hands.

Update:

I'd prefer either a .45 or 9mm.

It depends if your looking for something thats easy to conceal or something that is just a standard pistol for home defense. Also what type of caliber? If your looking for a 9mm handgun then the M9 made by Beretta is a great choice as well as the Glock 9mm. Both of these handguns are used by a huge variety of civilian law enforcement as well as military. I love the M9 Beretta and have been using it for the last 4 years in the air force and here in Afghanistan it proves very useful in the sandy conditions. It has a good amount of safety features and its really easy to shoot and clean. If you want something tiny both Beretta and Glock offer small and easy to conceal 9mm pistols for everyday carry but they would probably be hard to grip as you are describing.

so hands down i would go with either Glock or Beretta as far as the company. And 9mm is also a good caliber. hope this helps

Go to a gun store that has a firing range, fire different types until you fined the one suited to you, the weight of some mentioned would preclude a small female from being very accurate but not all females are the same so do not purchase anything until you fire several and determine the one that best fits your needs. Another factor is are you going to shoot elephants or ants, it does matter. I have handguns but my weapon of choice for home defense is a short barreled shot gun. Just point and squeeze no aiming required.

Before looking into caliber, there is another choice you need to consider: Revolver or Semi-auto

A revolver has the advantage when it comes down to reliability. The trigger is pulled, a shot is fired unless you have a dud round, in which case you just pull the trigger again. Nothing to think about in a tense situation.

A Semi-auto has the advantage when it comes down to the number of rounds you can carry. Also, the gasses that are created when a bullet is fired help to reload the weapon which means less recoil.

That's right come to Yahoo and ask a bunch of 12 year old kids what kind of gun you should buy, I mean going to an actual gun dealer and asking a professional would be asking too much of you huh?

Maybe you should come here and ask what kind of TP you should buy when that time comes because it is obvious that you can't make a decision on your own, you need Yahoo trolls to assist you in your decision making.
