If the police dept is not addressing an issue what part of the city government do I contact?

My van was broken into and my daughter's purse was stolen. The store we were in made me surrender my purse at the door so my keys were out of my possession. My car alarm was going off and the doors were still locked. Another funny part is that my car alarm does not work, it only works if you hit the panic button on the key fob, The police officer watched part of a surveillance video, we were allowed to see just few seconds, a woman walked up the street past other cars directly to mine and then the headlights flashed and she went into my van. She used the credit card at 2 places 1 block away from where were at. There had to be surveillance there and she has to sign something. Bottom line is I am not getting satisfaction from the police dept. What about other people this business did it too? Maybe they are getting info to break into peoples house too.

By the way this happened in Milwaukee on 13th and Manitoba, if you think something like this happen to you let me know.

Update:

So what you are saying Jack and Materially Artistic is that the police are there to listen to you gripe and do nothing? Not attempt to do anything about any crime at all because it would just be meaningless and when it happen to you, you would just sit back and say SOL. NO you would call the police and expect them to protect you and your family. Sound to me that it would be people like you who would not go to court because it would be too difficult.

I am not sure what type of store in what type of neighborhood makes patrons surrender their purses, but the million Dollar question is were your keys in your purse when you left the store?

I have been a police officer fro almost 40 years, and just about 30 of them have been as a detective. Cases are assigned for follow-up investigation based on certain priorities, including "solvability factors". The fact there may be someone on video is a positive solvabilty factor, so is the fact that a woman was seen on video. When I was a line squad detective, I handled over 600-700 cases a year. That, along with time spent in Court, time spent actually arresting bad guys and time spent writing reports on the cases meant that nothing happened quickly, unless there was a real issue. A stolen purse and credit card fraud doesn't make it a real issue, unless you are the Mayor's wife. Unlike what you see on TV, real detectives are not working on one case at a time.

Detectives like clearances. It helps get junk cases like this off their desks, so they can work on more important (and interesting) cases. Right now, somebody has taken some steps to clear this case, even if it was just sending out copies of the woman's picture to the patrol Districts. Now, what do yoummean by 'satisfaction". If you think it is going to be solved, right away you need a reality check. I locked up lots of bad guys for cases like this, but often it was weeks or months after I was originally assigned the job. I still love locking up bad guys.

There is also a fair chance, that this, like most non-violent property crimes in big cities, will never get solved. Welcome to the real world.

Like the other guy said, once they make an arrest, expect to make at least two or three trips to Court. And, no, they can't just read your statement. The defendant has a Consititutional right to confront her accuser. So, defense attorneys get asa mnay continuances as they can to wear down the Victims willingness to keep coming back to Court.

Just FYI, there were over 23,000 Thefts in Milwaukee in 2009 ( http://www.city-data.com/city/Milwaukee-Wisconsin.... ) and 467 police officers. You do the math.

Hold on Lady, the Milwaukee PD is going to stop everything they are doing and solve your stolen purse case immediately! I would talk to the Mayor or Governor, because I am sure they have nothing better to do either. Get off your high horse. Cancel your cards and notify the credit bureaus. Do you think they will stop every women in Milwaukee and hold a still picture of the Video to see if it is her. Maybe they can put every store employee on the polygraph.

People steal stuff. Lots and lots of people steal stuff. and there are only just so many cops to solve cases. I am sure there are rapes and Murders that they can stop work on. I mean, if they had known what an important person you are, they would have formed a task force.

If they catch this creep, they will call you to come to Court. And I bet that will be a BIG inconvenience for you, right? For your information, this happens EVERY day in every city in the US, sometimes ten/twenty/fifty times a day.

You sound like you really think the world revolves around you and your daughter's silly purse. How do you want the cops to address the issue? What haven't they done? They took a report, they looked at some video and after that, you have no idea what took place. What do you suggest they do? You are typical of arrogant, self important people who come on this site and criticize the cops, and then when something happens to you, you want the whole police department working on your case.

  • Your local SOL agency. Shlt Otta Luck.

It`s MARTIALLY Artistic, as in Martial Arts. Materially Artistic? I can`t tell if you`re being satirical in a way or if you are just completely retarded.

good grief what store makes you hand over your purse.......at that request I would have turned around and LEFT.same as I did when a local burlington started that crap......told them they clearly did not need my money and if they thought I was leaving my small hand bag and everything in it with the skanks at the desk they must be crazy..........walked out only returned when I knew this stupidity was over with.

Go above the police department or within the department go above the ones you have been talking to.

Talk to the police commisoner or the mayor and lodge a complaint with them. That story really ticked me off. Honest people get screwed and criminal goes Scott free.
