Help my cats sick! Please help?
He has a very very stuffy nose. He has to breathe through his mouth sometimes and I can hear him breathing most of the time. His eyes are really teary/ mucusy and it comes out of his eyes a lot. He hides in dark, small spaces like under my bed or under a desk. He sneezes a lot.
It started out as a slight sneezing problem but it has gotten much worse. I'm just holding him right now while petting and talking to him a little.
What can I do to help him?? My parents say we don't have the money t take him to the vets. What can I do for him without a vet? I'm pretty positive I can get something from the store or petco or whatever. Please help. one of my other cats had centimes like these and died. He is only getting worse.

It sounds like an upper respiratory infection. You can put him in the bathroom after people take a shower, or you can run a humidifier for him, just make sure he doesn't play with the cord or water bucket. Either should help clear the congestion a little bit. Make sure he's eating. If he's not eating, offer smelly canned food, fishy flavors are worth a try. If he hasn't eaten in more than say two days, it is a good idea to force a little food. You can mash up pate form canned food with a little water, and use an oral syringe to put a little bit in his mouth at a time. A grown cat usually needs 5.5 - 6 ounces a day to survive. Most start eating after a couple of days though. The other thing you can try is lysine. A kitten can have 250 mg a day and a grown cat can have 500 mg a day while you see symptoms. You can buy pills at Wal-mart, you may need to cut in half to get down to the proper dose. Then you can crush between two spoons and mix into the canned food. You may find powdered form at a health food store otherwise.
I am concerned though. Open mouthed breathing isn't too common, even when they're stuffed up. A vet visit would be helpful to make sure it's not too serious. I'm all for home remedies but sometimes it's prudent to seek help. If you have a regular vet you've used in the past, they may be willing to take a payment plan. They have some medication they can use to ease the congestion, and they can also give you an antibiotic to make sure it doesn't get worse. Good luck!

Cat's can get colds/flu like us. My cat gets seasonal allergies. But if you had one cat die from similar things, you might wanna get it on meds and vitamins. Ask someone in the store if they have the vitamins or vets you can afford near by. Hope this helped a lil. And hope your kitty gets to feeling better soon.
