The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) is designed to stop people posting material on the Net that they don't own. This means material which is copyrighted is not to be used by anyone who does not own that copyright. For example, on YouTube -- zillions of people post a montage they have made, and use music from record they like -- which was created by some professional musicians/singers etc. The people using that music are committing theft of intellectual property, meaning using someone else's work without permission or compensation.
Yes, it sounds incredibly trivial -- what's the problem with, for example, kids putting Beatles music to the pictures of their summer camp?
Well, the problem -- as seen by many -- is this is what has pretty much crashed the music industry. Why buy a CD when you can download all the songs you want, free, from the Net?
Of course movie and music companies, etc., are the major ones pushing for this law to be approved. They spent a bunch of $$$ to create those projects, and they hope to get a bunch of $$$ for them.
This proposed law seems VERY badly written, however. It provides that any website _accused_ of harboring stolen material will be shut down. (Goodbye, YouTube!) This seems pretty drastic; the law says "accused!" Everybody can accuse anybody, and everything gets shut down?
This is why so many Net people are strongly opposing the bill.
Congress was still fighting over it, last I heard. Now that they've adjourned for 2011, I don't know if it will still be on the table when they return in January, or whether it will have to be introduced all over again.
Hope this helps!

SOPA potential "end on line Piracy Act". which potential the yankee government needs to end piracy from on line (that's genuinely everywhere) via the two removing the stolen cloth or web content customarily (the two way, individuals have become screwed over). SOPA is a protest against that. SOPA-For the yankee public. government-against the wide-unfold public. (in my opinion, I hate the SOPA. I completely agree that it is not mandatory and the government will benefit a super fraction of administration they don't already have interior the U.S. I save on specifying united statesdue to the fact i'm Canadian)

SOPA = Stop Online Piracy Act
It is a bill that special interests (in other words the recording industry and their legal goons (RIAA)) is trying to push through congress that basically removes all privacy and legal protections and gives the recording industry the right to search your property, take your money and ruin your life if they even suspect that you might have pirated a song.
If you download an illegal movie, you may be put in jail for GRAND THEFT
It is way overboard and needs to be stopped
