How long to heal dislocated kneecap?

I dislocated my knee cap Saturday the 14th. I was NOT put on crutches as I was able to walk on it once in the mobilizer. The kneecap was put back in by the doctor in the ER. only took 2 seconds. Although there is still significant swelling its getting better. I was wondering how long it takes for the knee to completely heal and I can play basketball and return to gym again.

Because I did go to the orthopedist and he told me approximately 6 weeks. But Ive been able to walk on my knee with a little weight on it without the mobalizer so I am having trouble believing its going to take 6 weeks.

Ive also been able to bend about 1/3 of the way maybe even a little bit more. The knee just feels sore and a little like jelly. But am I rushing my attempts? Should I be waiting to try and bend my knee and walk on it?

Please listen to your doctor's advice and wait the 6 weeks even if you feel that it feels fine. I dislocated my kneecap when I was 12 and I did not listen to the ER's advice and, within a week (once it stopped being sore and hurting) I lied to my netball coach and said it was all healed. Nevertheless, it was not. By the end of the practice it was hurting badly, I ignored it, took two painkillers and continued practising. That was the worst thing I could have done.

It wasn't until a few months past that I realised the harm I had done myself. One day I was walking down some steps home. Thankfully I was near the bottom of them, for, stepping down on the formerly injured leg, my kneecap gave out again. I literally felt the bones move before I felt a blinding pain. It was as if I had dislocated it all over again, and a trip back to the ER proved that it was the case. Because I did not let it heal properly the first time around, even though I felt no pain with time, I was still aggravating it since it had not healed properly to start with.

To end my rather long tale (sorry), I had to quit sports and I can't even run now without fearing that the knee cap will move again unless I bandage it or use a knee band (I'm 21 now). So, for your own sake, please just be patient and wait it out. Your doctor knows what he is talking about, and you need to listen to him. What do you prefer? Not playing for six weeks or never playing again?

I fell and broke my knee cap and believe me it does take a good 6 weeks, you need to take it easy and not bend or hurt your knee, because you will pay in the long run.

you should wait aboutt 2 months, after a dislocation it can dislocate again very easly until its completely healed, well two months to do sports like basketball, you can do some things after a bit but sports can easly make it dislocate again.
