How do I deal with a neighbor that keeps stealing our cats? :(?

We've gone through 3 cats...I have called the police on them but can't prove anything...we try like crazy to keep our cats in the house...our male got out just as I was leaving to pick up my daughters and we come home and he's nowhere to be found; however they culprits are just staring us down through their kitchen window!! Wtheck???

Update:

ok...yes to those who think that they are not being stolen..that is completely false..we are in close proximity to our neighbors and I caught them trying to steal my other neighbors cat by luring it from under IT's OWN home (in the crawl space) with a can of sardines! I have collars on them and cats do like to go outside at times...we doe the best we can to keep them inside..but I DO KNOW THIS: THEY KNOW THEIR HOME AND WHO FEEDS THEM...these neighbors hate cats as they have said before and claim that they are allergic and they kill their birds!! I'm upset because I know the emotional reprocutions that I have to deal with with my daughter as she is more so attatched to this cat than I am..and my other cat IS microchipped as we adopted her...the other cat was given to us by a friend who was a stray at her home. Well...GOOD NEWS...he came back ;-)....but I wasn't wrong for thinking the worse because of other claims from other neighbors in our neighborhood of them taking ca

Update 2:

We also have called the police in the past with suspicion..they have taken it up with them..so I guess I'm a little paranoid when one of our cats doesn't come home at usual time if they happen to get out.

If your cats were microchipped there would be no question as to who owned them. The police would have something to go on. Including photos and vet bill records.

If your pets are outdoors, they can be stolen. You've had this happen three times, how many more will it take?

Once your cats leave your property, they are "fair game". If your cats are leaving your yard and going into the neighbor's yard, they are not stealing them. You didn't say what the neighbors are doing with them, and I sort of doubt they are taking them in to make pets of them. You need to keep them indoors - obviously you aren't trying very hard if you have 'gone through three cats'.

  • call the cops... they can find proof if u hav them do a search and if that doesnt work say that u feel a little scared by the fact that they keep staring at u through the kitchen.

Keep your cat(s) inside! That way they won't be stolen, hit by a car, or be killed by a larger animal.

Nobody can steal a cat! Cats choose their owners, don't you know that?

You'll just have to keep them indoors better than you do if you don't want them to leave.

Source(s): I've owned and loved cats for more than 35 years. The cat we adopted three years ago is an indoor cat, never tries to get out now.

Call the cops. But how did you know it were your neighbors? Everytime i look out the window my neighbors look at me cuz im looking at them. You might need a little more proof.

Cats roam so how do you know they are stealing them.

Steal them back. Cops won't arrest them. See what I'm getting at?
