If I were to call animal control, would they take away all my mom's crazy, undomesticated cats?
My mom has 7 or 8 cats- I don't even know anymore. I told her we can only keep one; the one we paid for, which is also the only one that is domesticated. She won't listen and she keeps throwing hissy-fits because everyone and I keep telling her the house smells like cat poo, piss, and just overall cats. It's absolutely disgusting. She doesn't even care; my mother doesn't view me as her child anymore, she views the cats as her children. She feeds them, talks to them, sleeps with them in bed, cuddles them, etc. She only screams at me and the rest of the family.
I can't bring anyone over to my house anymore because the smell of the animals is so utterly repulsive at this point. We've had all these animals for so long (3 years), and they've had babies. I convinced her to get rid of the babies but she just won't budge on all these cats.
It's driving me nuts. No one will come near our house, let alone come inside. They just think we're all crazy cat hoarders.
What makes it even worse is, both my mother and I are allergic to cats (not severely, but it is annoying. Very sneezey..)
So, if I called animal control, do you think they could take them away? What can I do? She just won't give them up, but everyone (including the rest of our household) is fed up.
By the way, I have tried to get her to give them to no-kill shelters but even then she refused. She's very unreasonable.
The thing is, we're ALL living in their filth because there's so much of it from all the cats that it's nearly impossible to clean. If you even try, they just mess again..
I'm 15, not of age. It's not that I'm jealous, but I live with 8 cats, two elderly (who my mother claims to care for but does a poor job of doing so), and my siblings who are of age but won't move out.
By the way, my mom doesn't have a house. It's my grandmother's, my mom barely makes enough money to feed herself. The animals would be better in another home, believe me.
And FYI my grandmother also wants the cats to be out, too.
I do clean, but it doesn't matter because they just use the bathroom everywhere. They do it on my clothes, my mom's clothes, my brothers, etc. They go on people's beds, anywhere there's fabric (like carpet or bathroom floor mats), blankets.. It's so unsanitary. We've tried so hard to clean it but my mom's entire floor is covered with tons of clothes and sheets and blankets; she just let's them use the bathroom in there..
Some of them are fixed, most of them are boys but not all the girls are fixed. My mom doesn't have the money to fix them.

Animal control would come and investigate the conditions. If They consider the conditions inhumane they will take them All.
If your grandmother (the home owner) wants them gone, there isn't much your mom could do about it.
Yes, you're only 15 and it Is your mom's responsibility, but there isn't a reason that You can't clean

animal control will only take animals out of their homes if they are in unfair or inhumane conditions eg. loads caged in small area or living in their own filth. im sure you could call them and they might be able to take a few off your hands but there are no way of knowing weather they will be able to be up for adoption because if the way that you describe them as being so undomesticated the only thing i can think of would be to ask around to shelters or to advertise them as free to good homes or something to that effect
hope this helps

You could probably keep some of them

So let me get this straight, it's your mom's house that you live in and YOU're trying to get rid of HER cats? This is far from your responsibility. It sounds like you're jealous instead of being concerned. As animal lovers, they are our extended family. You said she feeds, sleeps with them, etc. I can't imagine a woman so caring of her animals would also be so negligent about cleaning their poop. And if you are of age it's time to move out then. When you live under someone else's roof you can't be the rule maker.
