Since Atheists are so keen on ridding the world of religion and signs of religion?
When are they going to start on destroying the statues of the Greek, Roman and Egyptian Deities in the museums? And when are they going to realize their so called anti-religion IS a form of religion after all they are gathering together to convert others to their beliefs of no GOD/Deities?
Just wondering. I would prefer a real discussion rather than bashing if you please.
To those who posted (and take offense to my general comment:
1. Yes, Atheism is a religion. a. You believe there is no GOD or Deities. That in and of itself is a spiritual belief. b. you gather together in groups to change the beliefs of others who are religious and turn them to your way of thinking.
2. I am talking about the Anti-religious coalition who is fighting to take down statues of religious meaning as well as other things with state "GOD" in their writings. I am being general for a reason. I know many of you are not into this, but I wanted to know what you thought of what they were doing.
I am not Christian, BUT it never bothered me about the "in-god-we-trust" or the nativity scenes nor any other religious statements are being shown. It is called FREEDOM. To say that one can not display their beliefs because they offend is down right stupid. It is a show of weakness by the US and being "politically correct is NOT a good thing for anyone..
@bad tim... Finally someone who understands what I am getting at. As I stated I am not against Atheists nor am I one. But some are saying things like I am not trying to tell you what to believe but believing in Deities is stupid, They actually are telling us all what they want us to think. Those who call the old deities mythology because people don't worship them need to take another look at what they are saying. Many do worship or rather honor those deities. Those statues represent their beliefs. The same as the statues of Christ, Mary and others represent Christianity. To me that is art and history. I may not be Christian but that doesn't mean I don't appriciate their art work and statues. "The coin of the Relm" whither it say's in god we trust or hail hitler/ceaser doen't mean it can't be spent in the country it was invented. Why do people snipe about words which probably don't mean as much to them as to others. If I don't like Christian mus

most real life atheists have no problem with other people's religions as long as they mind their own business. i think you're confusing them with R&S atheists who, even while trying to convince you that they're tolerant, still have to put in a belittling stab such as calling all religious people delusional.
a lot of atheists do, however, hold a system of beliefs and make leaps of faith about the nature of the universe. you can see it in many of the answers here, so in that respect, you're exactly right.
there are also frequent calls for the eradication of all religion in R&S, so they can pretend to be innocent, but i've seen many of these same 'innocent' atheists say similar things.
but you'll never get them to communicate by confronting them with their own hypocrisy. like fundies, they always have a back-out plan.

Who said we wanted to rid the world of religion? I'd be content with just having the religious keep their beliefs to themselves, and out of the law.
"When are they going to start on destroying the statues of the Greek, Roman and Egyptian Deities..." The only people I've ever heard of doing things like this were religious people, for religious reasons. I'd be no more inclined to destroy a statue of a god that doesn't exist as I would be to burn a fantasy book because elves aren't real.

Statues of Greek and Roman deities I consider art and would not want to destroy them. Moreover, the gods of the ancient Greeks and Romans are considered mythical and they have earned their rightful place amidst the rich tapestry of our cultural musings. This is not so with the god-du-jour, who is purported to be "real" and thus should offend the sensibilities of those even gifted with only half a brain. I am keen on ridding the influence of religion as it pertains to our laws, but I have no problem with the Bible taking its rightful place on a shelf next to the fictional works of Homer or Aesop, et al.

Atheism- belief that God does not exist.
Religion- 1.The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, esp. a personal God or gods.
2.Details of belief as taught or discussed.
I might be stupid but i think they're contradictory

You are misinformed. I have no desire to rid the world of religion. I just want equal rights as my christian counterparts get. That's all. When religion is no longer a part of our government or looked upon as being some how better then non-believers is the day I'll shut up.

The difference with the Greek, Roman and Egyptian deities is nobody worships them any more or believes them to be real. Therefore nobody is trying to pass laws in their name, committing atrocities in their name, or feeding our children false information about where we came from based on their doctrine.
Atheism is the lack of belief in any gods. Period. If you can show me some sort of atheist organisation which is rising up against your religion then please do. Otherwise, this is just paranoia.

I'm not "keen" on any such thing.
I don't really care what silly superstitious nonsense you believe -- as long as you keep it out of politics, law, and public schools. Last I checked, nobody was trying to put "In Zeus we Trust" on our money, teach the Greek creation myths as facts in schools, or take away the civil rights of non-Zeus believers. Can't say the same for believers in other imaginary gods.
You'd prefer a discussion rather than bashing, yet you make statements such as, "...their so called anti-religion IS a form of religion..."?
Apparently what you want is to criticize, but not be criticized back.
Peace.

It appear that you are attempting to get a chat going which violates the Guidelines. I know little to nothing of the philosophy you present - it is not Atheists. Atheist believe that the existence of God cannot be scientifically proven, nothing more. Check it out in s Dictionary.

Sweet Teawitch, many atheists -- perhaps most -- do not object to our religion. They only require that we leave our religion out of their homes, out of their publicly-financed institutions, and out of their laws.
They do not want to destroy our religion, only to keep it contained so as to bring no harm to them.
Quite reasonable. Like any like-minded group (political party, coffee clutch, blues band), they can certainly meet together and try to get people to see things their way. They want to convert others to their views.
But a political party is not a religion.
A coffee clutch is not a a religion.
A blues band is not a rel...., well maybe in that case it really is a religion.
Happy Imbolc.

That's rich seeming that the world is getting destroyed by wars because of religion. Maybe they stop knocking on my door, shouting in town and stand back look at their religion and realize who really is destroying everything. Stop being so flaming judge mental Christians are not perfect just looking for an excuse to be something their not and they live on fear.
