How can I license a dog without her rabies tag/information and other vet information? She is adopted.?
Hello, I adopted a sweet little dog about a month ago. I was waiting to take her to the vet for her spayed and then have her check up done then. I was given some papers by the current owner and a rabies tag to put on her colar. I can not find it anywhere. We have been in the process of packing for moving and I have misplaced the papers/tag. I've looked EVERYWHERE........We are moving into a place where the dogs must be licensed; which is fine with me. I believe in licensing your dog. The problem is.........I can't get in touch with the former owner (she came from 3 1/2 hours away to re-home the dog to me) I don't have her address, the vet address, etc..........nothing. I do have her e-mail and I can contact her on facebook but that was days ago and no contact. Please help.......I want our little dog to be able to move with us. If I bring her to another vet and tell them that she has had her rabies, distemper, and is UTD on everything (which she is), will they believe me and give me documentation and a tag. Otherwise, I don't know what to do. Thank you.

You'll probably have to go through giving her all the shots again which won't hurt her. Most vets included these in your basic check up cost. It might be worth it for all the stress the worrying entails.

Keep working on contacting the previous owner. The previous vet could fax/mail you a proof of rabies vaccination.
Where I live the only thing I need to license my dog is the proof of rabies vaccination. I've never needed the tag. I don't put the tag on my dogs collar because it jingle/jangles with the license tag. Most annoying when try to sleep.

Well if you lost the paperwork then no one else will help not the old owner maybe the old vet might have record of the shots and the old tag number. What you can do is take the dog to a new vet and have titers done. I personally would do this instead of redoing all the shots.

Whether the new vet believes you or not, the vet must re-vaccinate your dog (which is not harmful) so you can file the vaccination records to obtain new tags/license. Good Luck!

You could just get another rabies vaccination. Only the veterinarian who gave the rabies vaccine can give you a duplicate certificate.

It depends on the city you are moving to. I moved to a very small town and told them I didn't have the numbers and they were fine with that. A bigger city may not be as accomodating.

Nope. You have to either re-vaccinate her or or keep trying to get a hold of the owner.

in my state, if you move to a diff county, you have to buy a new tag. ask them to look it up on the computer and you will still have to pay for a new tag.
