Why do so many people with no knowledge of it jump into service dog threads?

I was disgusted with several of the answers at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ajaoq...

Doctor or social service? Some of them are clueless. I have a friend that when she lost her vision her doctor told her ''You are blind now. You don't have a life, go home and sit.''

The Delta Society is a fine bunch of people, but therapy dogs and service dogs are very different.

Finally, I found this answer so outrageous. I reported it, ''Someone, such as yourself, who uses Zumba Fitness Videos, is NOT entitled to a service dog. Probably just using it as an excuse to take your dog where it doesn't belong.'' I hope others did too. I have yet to see a helpful answer from @Bobby.

Many otherwise physically able people do qualify for service dogs, the hearing impaired, diabetic, seizures, etc. There is no telling by looking at somebody if they need a service dog, and their medical condition is their business.

So if you know nothing of service dogs, go on to something you do know, if anything.

I don't really get what your asking but yes I agree with you.It is horrible how some people act or say just because their on a website and know they can get away with it.

  • From what I was told when I was trying to get a service dog for my depression and PTSD you do actually have to get some form of notice from a doctor before you can have a service dog. If you didn't need consent from a doctor then everyone could say "oh I'm blind now" and bring their dog into wherever they pleased. That makes sense to me so I don't know how some people are saying you don't need it. However because of the long process of actually getting permission for my dog to be a service dog and getting my dog trained I have decided to give up. I am not that bad where I need a service dog or I will die. Besides my dog goes everywhere with me anyway. I was told to go to one place by one person and a totally different place by another. Someone even pointed me into the direction of a scam and I didn't even know until I came on here. It seems that even some professionals don't know what they are talking about sometimes so I wouldn't expect the entire Y!A community to know what they are talking about. My family has been trying to get me a service animal for about 4 years now to no avail because we have been turned around so much. Even people with service animals are totally oblivious to the process.

Okay, so your friend's doctor was clueless. Delta Society is clueless but that post had some valid replies that offered good advice. You weed out the chaff and save the wheat when you are asking questions on a public forum.

Perhaps some of the people replied as they did because they personally KNOW people who make a sham of the name of 'service dogs'. And do it just to take their dog places the rest of us can't. So they may be skeptical of someone posting a question on a public forum like this instead of googling

'Service dogs' and contacting the appropriate agencies.

When you post on a free public message board...you get what you paid for.

Just ignore the bad answers and move on.

Says the person with so many agenda driven answers that have nothing to do with the question at hand? This is a thinly veiled attempt to call out another member. Reported as well
