Injured Kitten Advice Please?

My girlfriend brought home a injured kitten the other day and we need advice. the kitten has a bad limp and it looks like a broken leg. it does still get around but there is a very bad boil type thing right behind it's shoulder. it kind of looks like a boil of some type. it has ruptured three time in the past few days and when it does there is this white puss that just oozes out of it and the smell is so bad that you could take the worst smelling litter box and times that by 5. we do not have the money to take it to a vet. I have been out of work for almost a year and my girlfriend only works part time so money is very tight. I have been putting Triple Antibiotic Ointment on it every day but it still Swells up and then pops. Can anyone give me any advice on what I can do for this Kitten. It looks about 3 or 4 weeks old and a vet is out of the question.

Update:

Also we have no type of free anything where i live. we are in a small town of only 8000 people.

Update 2:

Where I live we have No type of animal control other than a bunch of trigger happy cops that would just shoot it. and in less someone wants to kick out the money for the vet then the vet is out. i have put a splint on the leg and the kitten runs and plays . what i want to do is get rid of the infection.

If you have an animal shelter or humane society near you, call them. Ask if they are a no-kill shelter. If they do not kill animals that arrive there, take them the kitten. They'll have it seen to by a vet, and then find it a home.

If you don't have a no-kill animal shelter near you, then contact your local vets until you find one that would be willing to care for the stray kitten you found, without payment. Some vets will do this.

I don't know if any of these home remedies actually work, but if all else fails, you can try some of these:

I do not believe those will work, though. This is an abcess. That's a big deal.

An untreated infection can lead to blood poisoning, and then death.

Unfortunately the kitten needs a vet. That's an abscessed wound, and without antibiotics and being lanced/cleaned it's going to become septic and the infection's going to kill him. Call your local shelters and see if any of them have a vet on staff - some do, and they offer reduced price basic vet services to the public. You often pay only for medications and not the vet - the antibiotics will cost you less than $20. Your only other option is to surrender him to the shelter, as without medical care he's going to die, and that at least gives him a chance.

Note that there are no free vet care places in Petsmart, anywhere. Some of them have an in store vet practice called Banfield - and they are not free (nor cheap).

You need to get her to a Vet ASAP. This may be tricky as like you say she is afraid. Can you borrow a "humane trap" from Cats Protection or RSPCA or similar? This may be the quickest way to get her to the vet. If you can't borrow one then do you have a cat flap you can stick on "lock in" so that when she comes in she will not be able to get out again? Again, if not, you just need to "win her trust" and this will take time. Leave food out before you go to bed, and each night move it closer to your house. She's not a danger to your animals - please don't hurt her - she is just lost and injured - think of how you would feel if someone hurt your animals. It sounds like she may have been hurt by a dog or another predator. Also ask around, has anyone lost this cat? Check local newspapers for lost cats and phone animal shelters/vets giving a description. Please do all you can. My cat has been missing 6 weeks and it's heartbreaking not knowing. Thanks

Take it to the free clinic.....they usually have one inside pet-smarts. You could also go to a humane society and ask one of the people there. I'm sure they see this often. Hope your kitten gets better. :)

I would call in animal control, your county must have one. Tell them the story and they should help you out. If needed, go around the neighborhood and collect some money...

You need to get the kitten to the vet. The cat has an infection and he/she need to have the leg check to see if it could be broken. please don't let the kitten suffer.
