How to treat a sprained finger?

I was playing rugby yesterday, and when I caught the ball it hit my ring finger and I heard a 'click' but I thought it was nothing. But after 10 minutes it started to swell but I continued to play anyway cause my dad said that if it was broken it would hurt much more. But after a few hours the swelling was mainly near my knuckle and on the other side of my finger the skin around the knuckle started to go blue black. I can't bend it too much, but it has improved from yesterday, as I can sort of bend it straight. I'm not even sure if it's a sprain or not but it is tender to touch around my knuckle, just wondering how I should treat this, and is it necessary to wear a brace or a splint cause I need it too heal as quickly as possible for rugby next week. Or will it even heal that fast?
