Car problem with a 91 Mercury Topaz?
Hello, recently I have been noticing that when I drive my car, a 91 Mercury Topaz, i am not having any problem. But i notice that when the car is in a park position, the car will not start back up - until i get a jump. Once i get the jump, everything is fine, until I cut the car off. I have replaced the battery but it is still doing the same thing. The lights are on with no problem. Radios plays fine. Please help! Serious replies only.

Sounds like the starter is pulling to many amps so you need the extra jump for the starter to work . Also check the battery cables for tightness on the starter and engine block .The ground cable attaches down by the starter and have been known to come loose .

Altenator is probably defective. If you're handy or know someone who is remove it and take to AutoZone or O'Reilly and have it bench tested, and replace as necessary. Also take the battery in for charging and testing as well, if it's not holding 12 volts minimum it will ruin a new alternator.

have the charging system checked out at auto zone ! i figure the alternator is not keeping the battery charged or the alternator belt is slipping bad which will keep the alternator from keeping the battery charged.
