Writers: How would you react if...?
Hey guys
Just a question to ask how would you react if you got published (or how did you react for those who are already published :D)?
For example, would you celebrate? Do a happy dance? Call your mum?
Look forward to your answers :)

initialize the celebration with a cherokee battle cry and run a few laps around the apartment complex, then proceed to sprint to this quirky chinese junk shop, buy myself a megafon, gain access to the rooftop of the tallest building around and yell "I AM the Master Commander!!". the rest of the celebration would probably include me and a few close friends impersonating jack sparrow&co, sneaking rum into a waterpark and having a blast.

Well I have had three books published. The first time it was great. The letter and the contract didn't really excite me. It was something like finding out I'm pregnant. I know it's coming but I can't really see it or feel it. Receiving the first copy and holding it in my hands are things I can't really explain. It was something similar to having my first baby.
I looked at the cover for at least five minutes. I opened to the dedication page and read the dedication to my daughter complete with her very unique name and I read through some of the pages and let a few tears fall. But for my book there were problems that I didn't like. I was not happy with the editing of it at all. The formatting wasn't something I was happy with and my editor cut a lot of the sex scenes that I worked very hard at making sexy and not sleazy. But when you sign a publishing contract the publisher can basically do anything with it in regard to editing and formatting. In fact it really becomes theirs to a great extent.
After the first one, it's all academic for me and I'm back to really enjoying the writing process more than wondering if my book will be published. In addition because of the genre I enjoy writing it's hard to find a publisher that will publish it based purely on the characters races that I include in my books. This is why I have started my own publishing company. But for me it's almost impossible to find really good manuscripts. What I've found is that anyone can write a book if they string enough words together, but should they is my question. I find myself trying to teach good writing more than publishing great books.
Good luck to you.

All it does is reinforce that you weren't wasting your time but maybe that's because I published articles in newspapers and such since I was 18?
I don't say a word to my critics. Let them think I'm living a pipe dream, let them make their snide comments. If someone else wants to correct them mid-rant then that's their prerogative, but I'll never be the one to do it. I think silence can be a lot louder/meaningful than words at times like these.
To those who supported me, they're the first to know. If those I know also have aspirations to become published then I'd simply mention it in passing and play it down, otherwise it seems boastful and inconsiderate of them.

My ideas could probable explode from cognitive dissonance... on the only hand, it skill they're depriving me (and each physique else who's meant to get a proportion of the earnings) of money. (that is not any longer particularly stealing, because of the fact they do no longer look to be removing some thing I already have.) on the different hand, it skill i've got rather arrived as an author. no person pirates the obscure stuff. (look at it this way - in the event that they desire a pirate replica yet have not already stumbled on one, how do they comprehend the e book exists in any respect?) i could probable tell them to borrow it from the library or a chum. If i'm that everyday, somebody they comprehend is definite to have it already...

I would scream, then... faint... then scream and faint at the same time! Then I would kiss the contract and kiss whoever was nearby, then bake a cake, then call everyone I know, then laugh, then have a party with all of my imaginary book friends.
And then I would die from happiness!
Edit: Oh, then I would drive down to Pennsylvania and purchase some fireworks to set off!

I would probably scream a little, cry a little, and then maybe faint from the excitement. Once I woke up, I'd tell all my friends and family and look in the mirror thinking, "Yes, I am a published author and you are?"
Haha, great question :)

Hm, that's easy! I'd have to casually call my mum, like I'm cool and not that bothered, and then go on a crazy rampage, screaming out in the streets. Then, I'd casually call a friend and act all cool, and you get the picture :) ~

I'm a publisher and marketer more than a writer so i just noted with some contentedness that I had sold copies of some of the books I had written and ones i published for others.

I'd jump around, try with all my might not to scream, hug the accept letter, tell my family, and call my friends to tell them (or tell them in person, depending on how long it will take until I see them again)!!!
Just the thought makes me excited! But first...I'm going to have to finish the story. I only started writing it last week.

I would run head-first into a wall to ensure I wasn't dreaming, re-read the letter which told me I was accepted, scream, dance and then celebrate with party hats and cheap champagne. :)
