Capstar only works for one day?

When I asked my question about fleas, I got two negative answers about why I couldn't spend $26-30 on a months supply of Capstar. Whenever I go online, it seems that each pill works for only ONE day. Why do people think it lasts for a month? To treat with Capstar it would cost $120 a month. Why do people have to be nasty and demeaning when someone asks a simple question, especially when they don't even know what they are talking about?

I'm not familiar with the other question. Use your voting powers and pick "no best answer" if you didn't get what you needed.

For the question at hand, Capstar is good for a one shot, kill all the fleas. It's meant to be used in conjunction with another product like Advantage or Frontline Plus. Frontline can be had for around $30 for 3 months if you shop around, or your vet may be willing to sell you one month's worth. If your kitty goes outside, it's a good idea to consider using the monthly preventives. In most cases it's easier to prevent the outbreak than try to get a handle on them once they're in the house. Good luck!

Do any flea meds work anymore?

I have used everything imaginable from Frontline, to Revolution to Advantix and now Advantage II. In addition I have bombed the house three times, just a week ago this time, before putting on the Advantage. It is almost as though the fleas multiplied after I bombed. Still my dog scratches and I have seen fleas. I have also used borax in the rugs and bedding and diatomaceous earth sand in the yard. Nothing works. Is anyone else experiencing this and are we being ripped off by the makers of these meds that no longer work? By the way, my dog is an italian greyhound and I have lab as well. It seems bother the IG more, though they both still have fleas. I haven't tried Capstar because I simply cannot afford it and besides, it may not work

The problem is that fleas evolve. This has been a particularly bad year for them. The only benefit I can see for Capstar is that you can treat kittens with it. I had a flea problem and it was very difficult to get rid of. The flea bombs did nothing. (did that twice) Our cat had dermatitis from the flea bites, pulling out chunks of fur....We threw out a couch. We bagged up all of our clothing in plastic bags for over a month. (and everything else made of cloth) I vacuumed two or three times a day. I read an answer on YA a few months ago. A woman's husband is an exterminator and she said that the producuts you can buy at the store just aren't working anymore. The fleas are growing resistant to them, and the companies are not changing the chemicals. We got an exterminator to come in twice, that finally solved the problem. I was told fleas prefer females (I don't know if there is any truth to that) hope this helps. DON"T GIVE UP!!! You will defeat them!
