Having had several cats, this is something I usually really dread having to do.

Firstly cats seem to know, long before the cat carrier comes into view and then they decide to go hide into the tiniest space you would never think of them getting into. Very frustrating when your already late for the vet appointment,

Depending on how wild your cat can be, I tend to ware a coat and thin rubber gloves for protection as Iam usually scratched to shreds by the end of the ordeal depending on which of my cats I have to lure in.

Anyhow once they have calmed down and you have managed to gain their confidence back, here are a couple of tricks.

1, Try keeping cat carrier out a few days before so they become familiar, if possible feed them in the carrier sometimes, so they can associate it with yummy food. Make sure there is soft comfortable blanket inside, they may even sleep in it a few days before.

2, Put the carrier at counter level , pick cat up after feeding and try putting cat in tail end first.

    3. Try dangling string inside and get ready to trap shut door once in.

    4. Something I have yet to try, is putting "catnip" inside carrier and just before the door then see if they go in themselves and get ready to trap them. :)

Once you do get them in the carrier there is an over whelming feeling of achievement, so immense it is, you can reward yourself with a cup of coffee, having at last got one over on your cat , :)

Despite all that, I love them dearly....

Good Luck............You will need it... .:)

Stand it on end with the door open. Pick your cat up and walk around petting it and giving it treats. Walk past the carrier casually a few times like it's no big deal. After a few minutes lower the cat rear feet first into the carrier and close the door. If you try putting the cat in head first you're in for a battle. The element of surprise is your friend here.

You have to make it fun for the cat. Talk nice to the cat while gently petting it. It will make the cat feel safe and not threatened by thee near by cage. Feed it treats and put a big reward in the cage. Like tuna, favorite cat snacks, or even a toy. If the cat freaks out and jumps around while in the cage. Try these treat balls. I thought they were mostly for dogs, but they made some for cats. Fill it up with treats and it should keep it busy in the cage. It's what i did to my cats. Now they see the cage has extra treat time.

If you have some time start leaving the cage out with a crate mat in it. If you need to go to vet or something fairly soon take the cat and in one hand hold the neck/scruff and in other under butt then flip the cat over and insert into carrier while keeping the carrier against a wall on a desk or something up abour waist high.
