Mirena Birth Control?
Because I am so young, my doctor does not want me to get my tubes tied after my 2nd child is born so he suggested this for me. I looked it up, and the side effects seemed a bit frightening to me so I thought I would ask the women around here about it. If you have had it, what do you think about it? Is it worth it, or should I tell him no?
I also want to point out that so far every birth control my body has been on has reacted badly. The first which was supposed to give me one period a year, made me bleed every day instead. The second which was supposed to regulate me, made my periods completely nonexistent. After that I quit taking the pills and still was not able to have a period. Its been 2yrs since I have had a natural cycle! With this in mind, is it possible that I would react badly to the Mirena as well????

Ahhhh, the Mirena! The side effects are "rare" but I'm not sure I totally agree. I think the minor effects creep up on you, so many people don't even realize it, until after it has been removed. Bloated, moody, and just an overall sense of blah! I had the Mirena for 3 years with only these minor, kind of annoying, yet do-able effects. I maintained my period throughout the entire time, just lighter and shorter. (3 days) After 3 years I was rushed to the E.R one day in sever pain and vomitting. It is then they realized i had an ectopic pregnancy and my mirena was nowhere to be found. After a D&C they classified my mirena MIA and assumed i expelled it without noticing?! Nope, 2 years later and LOTS of pains later, I had an emergency surgery to remove it from under my heart. Fun Stuff! I have 3 children and had a hard time concieving again after the mirena. Alot of miscarriages that the dr. said mirena causes the uterus lining to thin out, making implantation hard. My experience sucked bad and i know they say "rare" but everyone I know with it or that has had it, wouldn't try again.

Mirena is a nonhormonal birth control so you likely won't react to it the way you did with your other birth controls. However, there still are problems you could have. I tried Mirena twice. The first time it implanted in my uterus and partially came out so I had it removed and a new one put in. The second time I thought everything was going fine until a week later I got my period, the strings from Mirena got caught in my tampon and when I pulled my tampon out, my Mirena came with it. Talk about painful. The problems I had with it are rare, and honestly, after my husband and I have our second child, I'm going to give it another try. All of my friends that have it (and even my mom lol) love it and have never had any complications.

i was on the mirena after my daughter, the only bad side affect i had was weight gain. Also it took me 3 years after removing the mirena to get pregnant again with my second child. We never used protection, although i cannot solely blame the mirena for that. But if you really truly want your tubes tied your Dr cannot make that decision for you. Although i agree with him/her to each their own.

anything is possible but I have the mirana and i had a spotting off and on for about 3 months. Sometimes I get bleeding that is heavier than spotting but not quite as heavy as a normal period.... but mostly i just get some spotting which i'm ok with... Other than that i have had no problems with it and i've had it for over 2 years now.
