Can you sue the vet for not taking in a sick animal?
Okay, so my friend has a cat that is really sick. She took her cat to an animal vet but they wouldn't take it in. Can you sue them for mal practice?

No. Veterinary care is not subsidised by state or county money like human medicine is. This means that they are all privately owned and run, and can choose who they treat and who they don't. I find it interesting that you don't mention why they wouldn't see her cat. The most common reason a vet's office will turn someone away is that they are unable or unwilling to pay for even the most basic services, such as the exam fee. Most vets will try to help people out by offering a credit application or referring to a low cost practice, but if they took pity on and saw animals whose owners couldn't pay, they would go out of business in a month. Other reasons for refusing care could be if it was a clinic that did not have the staff or equipment to deal with more than basic care, if she was fired as a client previously for being abusive to staff or in collections, or if the vet was closing and referred her for emergency care.

my dog had her teeth cleaned a week ago and the vet pulled 8 teeth without telling me first. When I expressed dissatisfaction of this the office is now refusing to see my dog even for basic care. They have o problem taking my money or prescription dog food but wont treat my dog when she becomes ill. Anybody in Coolidge AZ, stay away from Coolidge Animal Hospital. These people are thieves

NO.
Some vets are not equipped to handle certain problems. While it's frustrating, at the same time it's a good thing, because going to a better-equipped vet isn't bad. An example would be when I had a puppy with Parvo. It's extremely contagious and can be spread on your clothes, your shoes... The first vet we took her to couldn't/wouldn't help us because they did not have an isolation room to house the puppy in away from everything else.

I feel like there is more to the story. They might have recommended that you take the cat to an animal hospital. Maybe there is a reason that they cannot or will not take the cat. I have no way of knowing that based on the information you have provided, so my answer is no. you cannot sue them.

Nope. Probably your friend couldn't/wouldn't pay, since that is pretty much the only reason a vet would turn away a sick animal. That's like saying you blow the motor in your car and expect the mechanic to fix it even though you won't pay for it.

Why wouldn't they take it in??? I suppose if it was sick enough that it dies (which I really hope that doesn't happen) then you could definitely sue them. That's not right of them to refuse to do their job. Tell her to consider taking it to an animal hospital or calling other vets. Good luck and I hope its ok!

The only reason they'd refuse to take it is if she refused to pay for it. They're a business like anyone else. What a weird and pointless question.

No. They can refuse care for multiple reasons.
Why did they refuse your friend?
