My cat is terrified of her tail?
My cat is the sweetest thing ever, and she wouldn't hurt a fly. But she is deathly afraid of her tail. She hisses and makes these low growls in her throat that sound like she's possessed! She's really loud and you can tell how scared she is. Usually when I put a blanket over her tail, she calms down, but is there any way to help her?
Thanks so much!

That's definitely a unique quality I have not ever heard of in a cat.
However, it's probably no more different than when a cat is scared of dogs or people.
The best way to introduce a cat to a fear is by progression. This takes time and patience and does not always pay off. I would suggest making some kind of contraption that can be strapped onto her tail if you're looking for a quick solution. But that could be a little silly.
Try holding her and reassuring her while her tail is covered, and then slowly revealing it to where she can see it. When she shows signs of uneasiness, slowly and carefully drag her tail across her paw or across her side, and pet her and talk to her soothingly at the same time. She will probably be scared at first, so don't pressure her or force her to do it.
It sounds crazy, but maybe in time she will consider the tail to be "friendly" and "trustworthy", like you are to her, if you continue to practice that routine over and over.
Move up steps, from her paw to her face to all over her body. This would be my best advice for this problem.
Good luck!

Try calming her down with some catnip (only a little bit) and see if you can't get her to just get used to it in a calmed down state.
