Why is my cat biting me right after being friendly?

I have a neutered male Siamese cat that is about eleven months old, we got him when he was nine weeks or so old from a person we found on Facebook that couldn't afford to take care of him. I did find it odd he was the first kitten she handed to us, and just simply showed us the other two, but she insisted on us taking him, and we did. For the first few months he was a great lap kitten and stayed in my lap all day as I was on my laptop or watching TV, everyone loved him at that age and grew attached. He slept right next to me at night, and slept walked. When we adopted another kitten from our local humane society, she got sick with a disease and died, but she gave him the disease too. For a few weeks we had to medicate him from a dropper and take special care of him, and he slept right next to me at night and wanted to be right there with me every moment, and would throw a fit if he wasn't there. When he got better though, he ignored me for months until my dad got a dog, that he insisted on putting in the bed. So when m cat became more talkative again I started petting him, and eventually he came back to wanting to be in my lap, but tonight, he started biting me, my laptop, my laptop case, anything that was in front of him at the time and he was purring while doing this.

Why is he biting me, and what can I do about it? He isn't affected by spray bottles at all..

Your cat is getting over his illness and probably feels a bit irritated sometimes because he has not been well.

Here is a thought for you....it is not a normal life for either a cat or a human being to be all day in front of a computer or a tv screen. Your cat is eleven months old you say, so he is now in his 'teenage stage' and gradually becoming a complete adult cat. As such he is also starting to assert himself a little bit more, for no cat can permanently be satisfied with being in someones lap all the time, it is not a healthy identity for him, for he needs also to play and have fun and run around silly and exercise.

It is a common thing for cat to mouthe you (bite) a bit now and then. It is one way of saying to you, enough is enough. When you pat the cat it is not always he feels like being patted, and although he might accept it for a little while, when he has had enough, he gives you a little nip. My male cat gives me a little bite in the morning when he wants me to get up and feed him. Well it works quite well for him and I get up and feed him.

Instead of spraying your cat with the water bottle, try to understand what he is communicating to you.

Sometimes cats get annoyed with us because we don't seem to get what they want. Give him some play time if he is up to it. Remember he is a siamese cat, and they do need more attention, interaction and affection than your general domestic moggy.

Regarding purring while biting. If you observe well you will find there are two or more kinds of purring. One is like when the cat is content and happy; and this kind of purring is like a constant humming. Another purring is like when wanting something or when stressed. The last kind of purring sounds like mixed with a faint meow it is like purring mixed with voice also, it has an intensity about it. So that kind of purrring is not for pleasure it is more from stress or wanting to alert you. I think now you understand that him a bit better. If you need to work at the computer in peace, just close the door so he can't get in. But compensate him by giving him quality you and me time later.

He may be jealous or just needing a little more attention. Siamese are one of the most affectionate, yet playful cats but with massive personalities that they express in many ways and they do require attention. Try having a 'play' time with him but using toys so he's not on your hand. If he does grab you, go limp, then pull away, if you do it straight away he will see you as prey. The purring is not always a content sign too so beware. I do suggest giving him play & attention, do not punish him with the sprays as he's not actually doing anything wrong, plus, do not let him see you using it either, otherwise he'll know and be wary of you... give him a bit more time and attention...best of luck!! xx

honestly cats are very quirky like this. he could just be playing or, although hes neutered, he could be getting territorial since the new dog is there. it was his house first and clearly the dog is an unwelcome guest. try to integrate them a bit more and hopefully over time he will calm down. its just the nerves. they are natural enemies you know. theyll eventually get used to it, but if over time theres still a concern, it may come down to permanent separation of territories (divid half of the house to th dog only and the cat only) or, one may have to go if it gets worse or violent.
