Can you eat Dried Salted Cod by itself without cooking it?
I had a craving for dried or salted meats lately, like jerky, and I saw dried salted cod at my local chinese supermarket. Is it okay for me to eat it as it is or do I actually have to soak it in water and cook it?

Salted cod in it's store bought state would be inedible. It must be soaked with the water changed several times be fore it can be consumed.

I can eat with a lot less salt than I used to and there are many foods I no longer add salt to as I cook. I couldn't eat sliced tomatoes however without salt, they taste s greatly better. Salt tends to draw out the flavour. I always have salt on the table in front of me, and woe betide anyone who reaches for it until I see them try the food first. I never stop them using some if they think it does need more, but often they will accept that I have added enough. The satisfaction I get is that I have nearly broken their habit of automatically reaching for the salt and adding some first.
