Just what do the wealthy "steal" from the poor?

I keep hearing people saying the rich are stealing from the poor, usually from liberals. I don't understand. Is it money? They're poor, so they don't have money, by definition. Is it labor? If they have a job, they are being paid, and have the choice not to stay employed. If they don't have a job, and are poor, and are receiving entitlement benefits, I would think it is those poor who are stealing from the rich. What is it?

The real answer is nothing. They just consider it "stealing" when somebody has more than them. "Rich" is a relative term for people with more than you, and "poor" is a relative term for those with less than you.

Those who are going faster than me on the highway are maniacs, and those going slower are idiots.

I believe this is definitely true just like there are names which portray more popular children, beautiful children, nerdy children etc. For example, I read that names with an 'ee' ending sounding name like 'Sophie' are portrayed as a more beautiful person. That's the number one reason I went 'safe' with both of my kids names. I won't risk naming them something 'out there' or 'different'. I think about what their names will do for their future. Eg. What kind of job they will decide to do in the future. I went for the top 20 most popular names list on the chart at the time, not the top 5000! And I didn't go for weird spelling choices either. I think that is dangerous. The top most popular names end up being the safest because they become the most normal and normal for their future employer too. As for wealthy names. I think it would have to be the more traditional ones. My guess would have to be: Charlotte, Elizabeth, Anne, Genevieve etc. Boys: William, Thomas, Edward etc. Poor names: Ernest, Dwayne, Wayne etc.

They "steal" hope , opportunity , and equal justice under the law. What hope does a young man from a poor family have of going to collage . Even if he has good grades who would loan a poor boy 25,000 dollars a year ? Unable to go to collage what chance does a young man have of opportunities for advancement in his work.

If a rich man and a poor man are charged with the same crime the poor man is much more likely to go to jail. The reason isn't that the poor man really did the crime and the rich man didn't. It's that the rich man can afford the best legal help and the poor man can't.

Some redistribution of wealth is important to maintain a healthy democracy , a strong economy , and an educated electorate .

You might also remember "you can't take it with you" and Christ quite plainly said " It's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven" . Food for thought .

How are the rich stealing from the poor? Well, in most countries there have been policies that have ended up redistributing wealth from the poor to the rich. There have been tax cuts for the rich- top income tax rates were brought down. Financial deregulation has created huge opportunities for speculative gains as well as astronomical paychecks for the top managers and financers. Deregulation in other areas has also allowed companies to make bigger profits as they were more able to exploit their monopoly powers, more freely pollute the environment, and more readily get rid of workers. Increased trade liberalization and increased foreign investment, or at least the threat of them, have put downward pressure on wages.

Also, Africa lost $854 billion in illicit financial flows to the wealthy countries from 1970 to 2008. This is a very conservative estimate and even that far exceeds the amount of aid (including tied aid and military aid - the majority of aid to Africa) that has reached Africa in that time. These illicit cash flows are the result of the economic exploitation of Africa in such a way that wealth slopes from the poor to the rich (in this case globally). One estimate is that the "third world" loses approximately $1.8 trillion a year to the "first world" through surplus transfers occurring through various modes of exploitation.

That is how the rich rob the poor.

For the past 30 years corporate CEOs have been shipping jobs to countries that pay lower wages while giving themselves bigger salaries and bonuses.

When you ship a job overseas, that CEO is stealing the ability of an American to fill that job and, as a result, unemployment goes up.

"choice to stay employed" How many people lost that choice when some corporate bigwig decided "hey, we can get people in China to build these for pennies on the dollar and we don't have to pay them when they get injured on the job"?

The poor are stealing from the rich. They don't pay taxes and receive free money while the guy who went to school for 8 years has to give up nearly 50% of his income.

The media has made the rich look evil. People hate success.

When you become wealthy and are giving more of your money to the government than you keep, you let me know. Why does the government feel they know how to spend our hard earned dollars better than we do? I would like to have the opportunity to decide who I give my money to.

Not in the sense of stealing, as in literally, but as in taking away. A lot of rich people are greedy and the more money they make, the more they want. So in order to make more money, they outsource their jobs to another country, therefore taking away a job that a 'poor' person had, who needed the job more than the rich person needed more money.

Liberals don't think that far ahead.

They just rant and rave and foam at the mouth.

And nobody is supposed to question anything they say.

    Liberalism is a mental disorder.

  • They dont steal...they just dont give any.

Caterpillar had 5 billion in profits last year...PROFIT, not revenue.

    1.56 billion in Q1 of 2012 already.

It's the other way around, except it's not called stealing but a taxpayer handout.
