How do I tell what kind of RAM my computer has in it?

I use the dxdiag feature to bring up a list of hardware and it shows me how much RAM the computer has in it but it does not tell me what kind. I need to buy some more RAM for this computer but I want to make sure I get the right RAM and that it will fit into my computer. I don't know whether to get SD RAM or DDR, I'm pretty sure it's not DDR but I want to be certain. And I don't want to break down the computer just to read it. Is there a way I can open up something on the computer to tell me?

This scanner will tell you what type and how much to upgrade with.

It may also suggest uprating with a solid state hard drive.

In case you open your laptop case you will have to see the ram attatched to the motherboard. First make sure to show off and unplug your computer first. Also ensure to discharge any static electrical energy you will have developed up by way of touchIng some thing metallic or utilizing a static wristband, or else you could fry your hardware. Back to the ram, it is a skinny stick most likely about 5 inches lengthy. It is attatched to the motherboard via two clasps at the top and backside. Should you cautiously unclasp the clasps after which carefully pull the ram out you will have to find a sticker on it as a way to say what type of ram it is. By and large you will see a laptop-#### akin to computer-6400. This is the style of ram that's suitable together with your motherboard. Unless the manafacturor states that other varieties of ram are suitable you must handiest use that form. You will find ram at many gigantic box retailers but the nice costs are observed at pc hardware internet sites reminiscent of newegg and tigerdirect. Just right good fortune!

It's actually very easy to check the RAM. Assuming this is a desktop, just open it up and pull one of the RAM sticks off the motherboard, as they are usually very easy to access. It should say right on the stick what kind it is.
