I want to have 2 wives?
Hello,
I am muslim born in India and now in the US. I am still single. I plan to bring both my girlfriends to the US and marry them. I know polygamy is not allowed in the US, but is there an exception for people of the Islam religion? Or should I marry them both outside the US and then bring them to the USA?

So do a lot of men. I would have liked to have two or three husbands, would that be alright with you? Actually at this point in life I would be delighted to split a man with someone else so I don't have to take care of all his baby sh*t stuff. The true test is IF everyone can agree and no one get hurt, it takes pretty evolved people to pull that off but hey, consenting adults can do as they wish altho polygamy is illegal in the USA. Guess one is the wife and the others "sisters" or you go back to India (I am not saying that in a mean way, just that it is culturally acceptable there and not here). Guess when you are in Rome, you must do as the Romans do.

Sorry but both of your options don't fly. Polygamy is illegal (sadly, otherwise I would have many husbands), even if it is relgious thing. So you would need to do what the Mormon's did when they wanted a lot of wives and couldn't have them...which is move to Mexico or Canada. They wouldn't recognise your second marriage here llegally unless you were already seperated from the first one.

The US will only recognise ONE legal wife. The way the Mormons get away from this is their other wives are married by religious ceremony only and have no legal standing as a spouse.

We all follow the same laws here. Our laws give women full rights and responsibilities in marriage, and they are all designed for 2 spouses per marriage.
It isn't going to change any time soon. You can't bring them both as wives either.
Don't come if you don't plan to be an American and follow our laws.

Stay in India. We have laws here. If you don't respect our laws and you're already trying to figure out how you can weasel around our laws, stay the hell out of our country. I can't have two wives (wouldn't want two) by law so either could you.
You're not going to make a lot of friends here if you come here thinking that you are special and deserve more rights than everyone else.

I think you are Mitt Romney... only Mormons do that I see many Muslims in my university and none say or think that.. are you a mormon?
If you are not then you can move to Utah and become a Latter Day Saint
