How do you introduce a new cat to a 12 year old cat in a one bedroom apartment?

We (me and my Girlfriend) had a cat that just passed away last week that we had for 5 years. Next year we plan on adopting another cat. We already have a 12 year old cali and she has been in our 1 bedroom apartment for 12 years. How do we introduce another cat to her when we have only a Bedroom, small bathroom, decent size living room and fair side kitchen? Our cali has not been an only cat. We adopted her in 2001 with another cat that died in 2005. So she has had other cats around but we just want to know how to introduce another cat to make it easier for all of us. Thanks

try rubbing a tissue against the new cat to get the scent on in and rub it around some area's in the house so the scent will be a bit more familiar, then try and see how it goes when you put the new cat with the old cat (hold the new cat in your hands when introducing it with the old cat because the old cat might attack)
