A cottage pie is a pie made from minced/ground beef and topped with mashed pototo. The meat mixture has a sort of gravy plus carrots and peas. Shepherd's Pie is the same thing except it is made with lamb mince.

The name is a technicality. Cottage pie is basically shepherds pie using any meat other than lamb. MANY recipes on line. Use whatever meat you like even chicken or seafood and you will have cottage pie.
Real comfort food.
Enjoy

Cottage Pie is always minced beef and Shepherd's Pie is always minced lamb. These dishes were made from the leftovers of a Sunday roast.
