Will freezing a cake change the taste and texture of the cake?
I was told to freeze my cake because it's easier to work with. Will this change the taste and texture of the cake? Also when the cake defrost will the butter cream be all icky? I'm putting the butter cream on when it's still frozen. I don't want to work so hard on something just to have it mess up at the end.

The cake itself will be fine, but the frosting will definitely suffer a texture change.
So bake it, let it cool, then wrap and freeze. The day you want to serve it, let it thaw to room temperature, then frost it.
I'm pretty sure the buttercream will not adhere as well if the cake is frozen when you apply it.

It may affect the texture a little.
Let it defrost first before adding the butter cream.

In addition to first answerer, I would suggest that the cake would lose some flavor and be a little dry
