How many theists believe just because they have been scared about not believing?

I think most theists have just been scared about hell. They are afraid to say there is no God for fear they will have to pay for it. I don't believe they are philosophical enough to care about the meaning of life. They can't be searching for the answers because if their minds were truly open, they would know that nothing about their "stories" is plausible. They must be feared into faith. Their society will scorn them if they don't believe. Their families would be shamed. Their communities would disown them. Is this what they mean by the "Fear of God"? Fear must be driving their faith. OMG what if I say there is no God and there actually is! That all-loving God will mess me up! lol Why can't you just believe in goodness and kindness?

Update:

And if your Avatar is Brian (an atheist) you and your comments are contradictory.

It's always been amazing to me that so many 'Christians' here try to use the fear of hell card or Pascals wager on atheists...

Seemingly to get the atheists to convert....

    IMHO

Suppose there was some nutcase with a name like "Pat Robertson", who was breaking into people's homes, tying them to a chair, and telling them that he would burn them, just a little, with a cigarette lighter, for three hours, unless they loved him exactly as he wanted them to.

Would he belong in a prison for the criminally insane?

Or, if that's too wicked, sick, twisted, and evil, here's an alternative scenario:

Suppose there was somebody called "GOD", who was threatening to take people and burn them all over, forever, unless they loved Him exactly the way He wanted them to.

Would he belong in a prison for the criminally insane? Or on the Throne of Heaven?

    Third alternative:

Suppose there was some nutcase with a name like "Pat Robertson", who got people to send him their money, because he made them afraid that, if they did NOT, then Pat's friend God would think they didn't love God enough, and God would burn them all over, forever.

Should Pat be in a prison for the criminally insane? Or should he be on TV, and living in a nice home?

If you are the byproduct of evolution and your ability to philosophize is merely the interaction of chemicals in your brain, then it's useless to speak of the "meaning of life". Even if you do, how do you distinguish your meaning from the meaning of the cockroach or fruit fly? They two would be the product of evolution and result of mere chemical functioning. If you claim you have meaning because you come later on the evolutionary tree, then you are claiming evolution bestows meaning? Then evolution has a purpose and is not random, or that meaning is random. If meaning is random, it is not meaning at all and you only delude yourself.

Your premise is false. People who truly believe do not believe out of fear, they believe out of love.

It seems to me that atheists spend far more time demonizing Christians than Christians spend demonizing atheists.

I would think that even an atheist could see how much atheists demonize Christians these days. At least an honest and open minded one would.
