What is US Army basic training like and how mentally/physically demanding is it?

I was wondering what the Army is like because I graduate High School tomorrow and I was thinking about signing up.

The dumbest people who are now in the Army all made it through basic training.

I just graduated Basic Training at Fort Benning, GA in September.

I'm completely convinced that everyone can pass basic training. It is designed for you to pass. AIT tends to weed more people out. I went from doing 15 Pushups in 1 minute for my first diagnostic, to 62 now. Fort Benning was a lot of fun - probably some of the most fun you'll have in your lifetime. Does it suck some days? Sure. Do you wish you never signed up for the military other days? You bet.

I had a great time overall. Mentally, make sure your family sends letters. Physically, prepare to be smoked. You'll learn to accept PT as a part of life. I remember after about week 5, we would be cracking up everytime we got dropped.

Go ahead and sign up if you feel you can take the rigors of basic training.

Don't look for the level of demand that might be expected of you...it's the Army,

and you'll be trained to be a soldier as well as your chosen MOS.

i heard for the combat related MOS's it can be tough, the other ones i heard it was relatively easy. when my friends went through it they constantly updated their facebook statuses, apparently you get your cell phone once a week or something.

i actually knew a few people that came back more out of shape than they did before they went in. the hardest part about any basic training is just getting used to where you are and being used to home sickness

not as bad as marine corps boot camp. I did both. same physically overall, but in the marines you spend more time in the classroom learning about the history of the corps. but its more mentally challenging. For the army, i believe it's more physically demanding than mentally. they don't scream at you or hit you like they do in the corps. just get in top shape and you'll be fine. seriously army basic was actually fun and I'd do it again. Marine boot camp can kiss my ***.

Goes through the basics of basic training in the US army. It covers everything from the first day to even the gas chamber. Good luck!

It isn't that hard, almost anyone in decent physical condition can do it.

Two mile run with a 60 lb pack on your back. That's just part of it. The National Guard does the same thing.
