What is the difference between a DVD/CD-RW drive and a "burner"?

Are these the same things? The "burner" is the drive, right? If so, does the word "burner" necessarily mean the drive is "rewritable" or does it only mean it is "recordable" or can it mean either?

burner means a drive that can burn too (means, that can write too apart from the usual read), it can be just a cd burner, or a dvd burner.

Drives maybe read-only. Burners can read and write optical discs.

Drives are not rewriteable, the media they are burning is. If it is a burner, it is capable of using both W and RW media.

    Burner

    burnerapp.com/ - Cached

Burner is a privacy layer for your phone, providing alias phone numbers at the push of a button. Fast, safe, and totally private - get Burne

It actually doesnt mean anything unless you prefix it with CDuestion /DVD I worked in the trade and nobody callled it that . Above is the first hit from google.

Can't you come up with a better question like Existence VS Chaos theory for example ?
