Well, looking at it from a purely scientific purpose, our only real goal should be to reproduce. We survive long enough to pass on our genes and that's it. Society and culture have surely affected this, but scientifically, all we need to do is have offspring.

  • I'm not quite sure what you mean by "scientific purpose" . I'll give it a shot hoping this is what you might've meant. I have to warn you although I'm not religious I do believe in strange things since I don't think science has completely explained some of the weird phenomenas in the natural world. I don't think evolutionary biologists really listen and carefully consider what quantum physicists have to say about the world.

    HERE's my idea:

I think there are natural phenomena not much discussed by evolutionists that may hint at an answer to your question if I've got you right. Take mimicry. Mimicry in insects is so specialized and tailored that random mutations don't seem to explain it for me. There seems to be an extra something that allows the genes of the animal to comprehend what it needs to change to survive.

I think there's likely a large information data pool of energy. Probably what people think of as spirit.

I think that as physical beings here on earth experience the world, the genes pick up some energy signal that tell them how to change to better survive. When we die I think that the energy that animates us, containing vital information regarding the aspects of our life and experiences, is released into some eternal energy cloud to be incorporated and considered to improve upon the next generation.

The scientific meaning then to life is to enjoy the full range of earthly experiences so that the informational data pool can be enlarged and the next generation improved from it. Each creature is like an informational data gather as it goes through its life.

Could sound cooky, but I'm a platonist and I think the world of ideas is eternal and I don't see why there couldn't be actual interaction between the abstract world and the material world. So many things we don't know very much about yet like the fourth dimension

There is no purpose, per se. The best we could come up with, with science, is natural selection, i.e., the purpose is to pass your genetics/alleles/DNA on to successive generations. We might think that we are special because of our emotions and such, but consider what is telling you that. Your brain. Which is a creation of natural selection. The only reason we can think these thoughts is because it was a reproductive strategy for our ancestors to have greater intelligence. It was an accident of nature. Of course, this is all without injecting religion into the mix.

  • If there is no soul, nor a Creator, then you have no purpose. Your existence is of no more purpose than that of a rock or bacillus. Just as morality, and right versus wrong have no meaning without a higher law than man's, there can be no real higher purpose without a higher state of being... one that transcends this material world which is itself merely an illusion, a kabuki theatre. All purpose and morality simply becomes a matter of opinion, differing from one person to the next. Any achievements one makes... curing some disease and saving millions of lives... for what? Why does it matter? Do not look to science to give a purpose... it cannot. It can only be found thru recognition of one's own soul, and reaching out to the universe beyond thru it.

So, whether your life HAS a meaning and purpose... that is up to you to decide. You wanna leave God out of it? That is fine... you have made your choice.

Purpose... that implies a motivation or reason for something to happen or exist. A motivation cannot exist without an entity to feel a motivation... a reason can only exist in a mind capable of Reason. If there is no Universal entity that laid down the laws of science, then there can be no motivation behind them, all things simply are.. with no purpose whatsoever.

I believe we are here to enjoy what life has to offer in the many ways we can, whether it is finding a passion for something you do or just enjoy the time you have with friends and family and do experience the vast feelings you can feel such as love, happiness, laughter, and more. Of course there are sad days, but I believe that everything happens for a reason. Looking for a laugh? Check out my video. But as for your questions, life is in many ways, a place for you to find experiences and build upon them

Its scientific purpose is to continue its existence through rebirth and adaptation.

that isn't science's job. it just describes how physical phenomena happen. You might as well ask, "what is the Grammatical purpose of life?"

Science is what we use to describe the world around us.

    It has no innate purpose.

To survive long enough to have sex and get kids and pass on your genes. That's it
