Good dog breed for me to get for protection?
Hello, I want a very special type of dog.. I want a dog that will protect me, as a 15 year old girl. I need a dog who will protect me on runs to the beach and in my own room if anything were to happen. I want a dog (best friend!) who will make me feel safe. The problem is, I need a dog who doesn't shed that much (as my mom HATES dog hair.... urgh) and a dog who will be okay with my little yorkie and old labrador. Thanks if you have any suggestions.

The only dog who even comes close to your wants is a Standard Schnauzer. Google his image and see if you like them. I am not sure how he would get along with your Yorkie, but as long as he was introduced as a puppy he should be okay.

I fail to see why at your age, you would be running on a beach that is dangerous. And why on earth do you need protection in your room? Where are your parents?
You don't need ANY dog. You already have two to take care of.

As long as your dog is professionally trained, it will protect you anywhere. You should never use an unprofessionally trained dog as a protector. If you just want a dog that will scare people off, get a medium sized dog that barks a bit. It doesn't need to actually be trained to bite. As long as your dog looks a little scary, people will be cautious in approaching you. Also, most dogs will get along with other dogs if they have been properly socialized. Get pepper spray if you want something to protect you
Dogs need to be trained to protect
There are very few 'guardian' dogs that were bred to protect as an instinct
They are pretty rare too

Caucasian Ovcharka. Period. Ya pepper spray works good taser blah blah the question was about a good guard dog not ways to defend yourself. They do shed though and are pretty much the ultimate dog. Used to defend livestock from wolves and help hunt bears.
* Haha people voted down my answer when the question was what is a good guard dog. I named the best one out there and answered the question. Check mate. And a bunch ignorant pepper spray radicals don't like my answer. Probably right though no way a 15 year old girl is ready for a Caucasian Shepherd. The looks and size of the dog alone would fend off any halfway intelligent man. Get you some pepper spray hunny or just piss your pants if you are about to get raped heard that works. Now more vote downs for my level 1 yahoo answer account please!! Can a 15 year old even legally buy pepper spray haha idiots. Someone said boxer hahahah someone would just kick a boxer in the face and it would yelp little 70 pound dog Vs a 200+ pound man. Go with something 150+ mastiffs. Bite sleeve train it and it would lay even a large man on his back kicking and screaming for help while being mauled. Self defense if its on a leash and you are being attacked. Maybe you should get your dad to take care of the guard dog situation you asked about. Some dogs are f8cking monsters that can take out 2 pitbulls at once. Now more vote downs for my level 1 yahoo answer account please!

shepards, american bulldogs are good protectors, but any dog can be a moderate to heavy shedder. and these two breeds i listed needs trained and know that your the boss. they are natural protecters but they need to be raised right.

animals are not ours to use for any reason , buy a gun /tazer/ or pepper spray
if you must have a dog then please adopt one from a local animals shelter and take good care of it , dogs are a lot of work as are all animals .
