Sure, you should use a pastry crust as an alternative of a pizza crust with pizza type fillings. The change is that a pastry crust includes fat and a pizza crust has little or no fats (normally a little of olive oil relying on the recipe). Finally, filling a pastry with pizza like fillings is satisfactory. Many cultures have an identical dishes. Like Indian Samosa, South American empanada's, Jamaican pork patties for instance. You may need to go mild on the liquid (sauce) when filling considering the fact that they're going to ready to soak up much less liquid than a ordinary pizza dough crust would.

Well you could but it's not going to be a good pizza crust.
Pizza crust and pie crust are two very different types of dough.

you can put your pizza stuff on just about anything from tortillas to pitas, and pie crust will work fine if that is what you have.
for the smarty guys who think pizza crust needs to be a yeast bread product, WHY? any bread product will work just fine, so long as it holds the sauce, cheeses, and meats or other veggies.
