I put him on winolot dog food and although he could hold it down everytime he went to the toilet it is always loose. what could i feed him to make it better? because he loves his food and wants to eat all of the time and i dont really want to put him on dry biscuits 24/7 . he is a whippet if this helps?

Adult dog food is ultimately better for him, as puppy food contains more mg of vitamins (probably what's making his stool runny) and higher mineral and protein content which can cause their bones to develop too quickly, and become fragile. (This is an ongoing discussion in the dog community, and has not been 100% confirmed.)

Dog food will absolutely not make his stomach upset, but big changes in types of food can. Switch him over slowly. If you want my advice on food, this is what I prefer:

Puppy food has the nutrients etc that he needs while he is still growing, although putting him on Adult food won't be necessarily bad for him, as such. If I were you I would just prefer to keep him on puppy food while he's still developing.

What is more likely to be causing his bad tummy is the low quality food you have him on. Winalot is a terrible quality food, I am sorry to tell you.

Here is why I would never feed Winalot - http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/sh...

That is one variety of Winalot complete - other dry varieties and the wet are just as awful, unfortunately.

If you put him on a higher quality food, maybe a hypoallergenic one if he has a sensitive tummy, you will see a difference straight away.

It is not likely that feeding an adult food would give him an upset stomach unless there was a change in protein or formula. For example if he was on a puppy formula with chicken and was changed to an adult formula with lamb, that would definitely cause digestive upset if done to quickly.

Next thing would be to look at the ingredients in your current food. Avoid ingredients like corn and animal or chicken by-products. These ingredients are difficult to digest and can lead to digestive upset like vomiting and diarrhea. If you find these ingredients in your current dog food, I would suggest transitioning to something more digestible like Natural Choice Wholesome Essentials puppy. This formula contains real chicken as the first ingredient and contains no corn, no wheat and no soy protein which can also be difficult to digest. It contains no chicken or animal by-products, no artificial colours, preservatives or flavours.

    Hope that helps,
