Have you ever seen a cat with two different color eyes?

Two cats were born last spring. Both are mostly white, with a small amount of black. They are long hair Ferrell cats so I cannot hold them. Anyway, one has two beautiful blue eyes and the other has one blue eye and one brown eye. I might be able to pet the second one and if I can, I'll snap a picture of it. But, is that common?

Update:

ocimom best describes the two cats. I don''t think they are deaf. As I said, they are not domesticated, so I have no control over them. They are in a group of cats that I feed every morning.

Its called "odd-eye" - I owned an odd-eye white Cornish Rex (actually had all three eye color combinations). The odd-eye cat has one blue eye and one gold eye. Your "brown" is really a dark gold color.

What is rare and uncommon is to have an odd-eye cat that is not all white. One of my first domestics I had (showed in the household pet classes at shows) was a black & white bicolor (about 50/50 in color/white) that had one dark blue eye and one gold-green eye!

Yes. I have friends that have Japanese Bobtails and both cats are odd-eyed. Odd eyes are pretty uncommon and tend to only show up in cats that are solid white or mostly white.

No such thing as Brown eyes in cats. Since this is a feral cat it's more likely both eyes are Blue and the cat has Feline Leukemia and bleeding inside the one eye. That or the eye was injured.

It could possibly be a COPPER eye and a Blue eye but that's pretty rare. More often odd eyed cats have one Blue eye and the other Gold or Green. Do post a picture once you get one.

Yes, it's quite common. It's actually linked to the gene for white fur or white spotted fur when it prevents melanin (pigments) from reaching the eye. As such, you see a lot of white cats with odd eyes most often. Not always white, but it's less common in non-white cats.

White cats with odd eyes are also more prone to generic deafness as the gene also can degenerate the cochlea (inner ear, the part mainly responsible for hearing), but the chance is much lower if they have any coloration at all. About 20-30% of mainly white odd eyed cats may be deaf in one ear at least. Since that cat has some color, he's most likely able to hear just fine.

Yes, I sure have seen them. The odd eye color tends to be most common in cats that are solid white. They usually have one blue eye and one gold or green eye. They can be deaf in the ear that is on the same side as the blue eye but not always. I think it's a really neat feature and I wouldn't mind having one of these cats myself.

Yes white cats with different color eyes is more common than other colored cats. About 30% of these cats may also be deaf. Its more popular with one of the sexes but im not sure which. There is plenty on the internet about it! If the cat does turn out to be deaf and it is feral, it may not have a good chance of survival, due to not being able to protect itself well.

Turkish Van cats have both two amber eyes, two blue eyes, or much less typically, strange eyes (one blue and one amber). Eye color doesn't correlate to blindness, but a massive percentage of pure white cats with two blue eyes are deaf (feel some Turkish Angoras).

Yes and it commonly occurs with white cats though not always. Another interesting piece of trivia, these cats are are often prone to deafness in one or both ears (about 40%).

It's called heterochromia. Lots of people have this as well, including Mila Kunis, Keifer Sutherland, Jane Seymour, Kate Bosworth, and Christopher Walken.

Yes, that is rather common for cats, especially white ones, for some reason. If you're worried about its sight or if it may have other health problems, take it to a vet as soon as possible and speak to its current owner.

Hope this helps and enjoy life with your new family addition! :D
