Freezing chicken raw?

I had taken a package of chicken I wasn't able to cook that week and put it in the freezer, uncooked still in the packaging. The package says it should have been cooked April 12. Since it was in the freezer is it okay to cook or no? Is that only when you freeze cooked chicken?

As long as it was frozen on or before April 12th, it's fine.

If you froze the chicken on or before April 12, your chicken will be safe to eat for about 3 months as long as it stays frozen. The only problem with freezing meat, fish and poultry in the original wrapping is that if the wrapper is not totally airtight, you might wind up with freezer burn. Freezer burn will cause the product to lose quality and will dry it out, but it is still safe to eat.

It is perfectly fine to use. The date is a suggestion to cook it by while still unfrozen. Sometimes you can go past that date by a couple of days w/ no problems.

That depends how long it was in the refrigerator. It should only be in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If you can't cook it freeze it.
