Royal Pains Question from Writer--Sharp-force trauma abdominal bleed...?

For any doctor who happened to see last night's episode of Royal Pains, in which Hank attempted to stop a character from bleeding to death from an abdominal stab wound by clamping off the hepatic artery, applying direct pressure, and sprinkling in some coagulant powder--

How accurate was that, and how much of it was Hollywood? I would like to use some of it in a story I'm working on.

Update:

Lara--Thank you!

I love Royal Pains and haven't missed one episode since it first aired. The facts of the procedure would have worked in a hospital or EMS situation the idea that, that would have worked is not likely. It would have took several more people than it did.
