What do you think about the Paula Deen Scandal?

For those that don't know, she admitted to saying the "N word" in the past. She got fired off Food Network, Target and Home Depot. The media has also been bashing her ever since.

I honestly think that they went overboard. Everyone that I know has said the N word more than once, including myself. Now that I'm older I understand that it shouldn't be said therefore I have stopped. The only reason why they've made such a big deal is because she's white.

Was this a legitimate reason to fire her?

she is ignorant, I blame all that butta

  • I don't think it a nice thing to do because she said, she used it before in her life.. it wasn't recorded anywhere.. I just think the media found a sensitive spot for famous people with relationships with brands like this. Now, the companies and the newspapers are making money from her. It's pretty sad actually :p. I mean I know I didn't like her use of butter, but she was a good personality to see on tv sometimes.

When you're a public figure, you have to watch what you say as these companies had a financial interest in her. She did more than just say the "N word" by the way, she suggested that black people at a wedding she was running should dress like slaves and has been blatantly racist numerous times. By saying these hurtful and racist things, she is hurting the companies who represent her. Tons of black people and more than a handful of white people would probably boycott Food Network if they hadn't kicked her off.

Honestly I think her offense was relatively minor and the consequences were appropriate. She will always be a millionaire and will always have plenty of fans. If you want to blame anyone for her getting kicked off of these networks, blame the American consumers who would likely boycott them, not the companies themselves.

I wonder which word, that we all use today, will be banned in the future.

She did what everyone else did in that time.

More to the point, if this word is so bad that it can`t even be spelled out, how come the black rappers can say it loud and often with impunity. Why aren`t they banned?

Where is the justice in that?

I think it's dumb. She lives down south. It's not uncommon. She OBVIOUSLY has black friends so she isn't racist. They're taking it way too far. The only difference between her and everyone else is that she got caught saying it.

No, this was not a legitimate reason to fire her. What is in the past should stay in the past.

For a television channel or company with an image to keep? Of course.

I do think people are making too much of a fuss about it though, the more you keep her in the spotlight the more racial slurs that are going to slip out of her mouth.

Paula has probably made millions so she won't have to worry about the rest of her life.
